Great post Dan - I love zoos. Going to have to go on a zoo trip soon not been to a zoo in years.

I'm after some golden Mantellas - But there's a fight over what's going in the newly acquired 3ft tank... Not that there's anywhere to put it at the moment... Kaz wants a puppy, but I told her it would be cruel to put a puppy in an old fish tank.

Will probably both wait until the study is finished and get a pair of fire salamanders.

No Zeedonks then??

One of the most weird looking animals, plus what could be more entertaining than a Zebra cross donkey.

Genuine piccy for those that may not believe.

You could be right, Although some one else has suggested 'Owl Monkey' which looks similar.

btw, those stripey horses aren't zerbra/donkey crosses. It's a breed of wild ass that is completly extinct in the wild :) Sorry, I'm an animal geek :D I live about 20 mins from Marwell and go there at least once a month :P

I've just done a look up on it, apparently the 'zeedonk' or 'zonkey' is a living animal, although very rare due to the differences in chromosomes it's unusual for them to create offspring.

Colchester zoo has the only living one in the UK apparently.

The only other similar one is the Okapi, which looks like a short necked giraffe crossed with a zebra.
Seriously, that's another weird animal, http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=okapi&meta=
