Hey guys, im getting my baby corn on saturaday, and i plan to use aspen as substrate. Ive heard that baby snakes can ingest substrate and it will kill them, so i was put off on puttign substrate in straight away.

My question is, if i feed my snake outside of the viv (like in a cat litter tray) am i okay to use substrate now, or should i wait?

Thanks, Dean.

Its fine to use aspen at any age as long as the snake is fed outside of the viv

I use kitchen roll at the bottom and sprinkle some aspen on top, but frodo always likes to camp out under the kitchen roll even though he has other hides

i would use aspen, and feed outside the viv it gets them used to being handled and after awile they think that when they get taken out its dinner time! just make sure your hand dont smell like a mouse

have you not read my 'substrate' sticky thread???

Aspen is fine for a youngster. ideally feed outside the viv/faun so there's no risk of ingesting substrate but if you feed in the viv/faun aspen is usually brushed off as it goes into the mouth.
