I thought i'd post this because, well because of my own stupidity really.
For those of you that read my posts earlier, you've seen that my heater had gone in my incubator, so i decided to quickly build one with my spare heat mat. (you should always have a spare).
Anyway, I remembered that we've got some insulating tiles in the shed, gifts from previous owners, and thought '8 2 foot square tiles, I can make an incubator in no time.'
I then proceed to cut these tiles up in my KITCHEN on the floor to make an incubator.
Because they were designed to clip together, i made it with a ridge at the top, so i could have a nice tight fitting lid.
After measuring, cutting and trimming these things, I had a perfect sealed incubator, that was about 18 inches long, by 10 high, by 12 wide.
I was covered in dust and flecks of this stuff. I picked it up to bring upstairs, then thought 'hold on a sec, what is this stuff anyway?'
I hadn't stopped in my excitement and enthusiasm of building this thing to consider what the tiles were made of, it was only afterwards.
I had only gone and bloody used ASBESTOS tiles!!
I've now carefully packed the box, and remaining tiles into sealed bags, I then had to gently sweep up the kitchen because we have dogs as well, and put everything into bags.
I'm now waiting for the local council to come and remove them.
I don't know if I or my family can be at any sort of risk, so i'll be speaking to my docs in a few days, just in case.
Lesson learnt by me: Check what the stuff is, BEFORE coating myself in it! |

Cheers Roselyn, I'm still here, so i think i'm ok.
Or are you just checking to see if you can get some more snakes and equipment cheap or free, because no one in my family is that good with 'em.  |

I think you should be ok. I think the real danger of asbestos is from prolonged exposure (even though I wouldn't mess with it anyway)
Good job you realised before you put the eggs in though |
