Hi Folks, I am new to keeping snakes but now have 2 Carolina Corns. I have read on the tips page that it is recommended that you feed your snake outside of it's viv. I dont have an issue with that but by doing so are you not then contradicting the "no handling after a feed" rule because you must do so to pop the snake back in its enclosure?
depends what ya class as handling, i class handling as a 10 min session with my corn. lifting out of feeding tray to put back in viv is only very short period of time.
BUT my feeding tray does have a large cut out at one end which i hold by viv so she can find her own way in if she wants
Yeah i just tend to hold the feeding tray just inside the viv door and they bog off when they're ready. Means they cant mistake fingers for food too.
It's also fine to lift them back in to the viv as long as you give them a few minutes after they've finished eating and avoid putting your hands to close to the belly bulge. Oh and dont forget to wash your hands first if they are likly to smell of mouse.
Mine crawl back into the vivs when I tilt the tub up, however picking them up and placing them back in has never caused problems for either of mine. By handling I think it means full handling for an extended period of time. Picking a snake up and placing it in the viv doesn't disturb it anymore then it crawling in on its own accord or going for an after dinner 'stroll' around the viv over logs and hides.
