HOw do you go about attaching lights to the inside of wooden vivarium.
My vivarium would be 36" long with sliding glass doors. I need a bulb in there and i was wondering how to attach it and control the temp. I tried researchin it online but i can't garasp it. Pictures of how you attach yours and examples would help.
Thanx |

are you using it for decorative or as a heat lamp???
if decorative just use a energy saving bulb they give off virtually no heat so heat isnt a proplem
if you intend to use it as a heat lamp u need the apropriate bulb and a dimmer stat
also as you can see make sure get get a guard |

You dont need a bulb if you dont want it. Most people prefer using mats for heat and low wattage bulbs for display.
Like above, if you want a bulb you will need a heat guard. |

also if you're using a ceramic heater/bulb you'll need a special heat-resistant fitting and electric cable |

I do need the spot bulb coz the uromastyx needs an internal temp of 120degrees. So would I drill holes in the top of the viv to get the wires out? Or are there normally holes supplied?
Soz for the newbish questions, I never thought about this side of the heating etc... |

Alot of vivs have slots in the vents for cables so have a look at them before you drill a hole. If nit just drill a little hole and put the plug on after the cable has been put through. |

With my viv, I didn't make it but at the back there is a section of board probably about 3"x3" and it is separate from the rest of the viv so its screwed down but basically means that when I need to run any cables in I just take that off, feed them through and do it back up, rather than having loads of little holes.
Unless you want to put the hole down the bottom for example for the sensor to a stat, then I recommend doing this.
Don't know if that makes any sense. |

Just check that the holes aren't supplied in a bag taped to the back of the viv . |

But if the bag taped to the viv does indeed have holes in it, wouldn't they have fallen out? |

Thing is though, the bag of holes creates a bit of a paradox really.
If the bag has holes in it, then they could fall out. But when they've fallen out there will be no holes in the bag, so how did they fall out?
and what if one of the holes breaks in the bag? would you then have 2 halves of a hole or 2 more holes? |

Those scientists at Cern have got nothing on us. Who needs a large Hadron Collider anyway .
There might be a spare bubble for your spirit level in there too so go careful . |

Its the type of bulb. Like a screw in bulb but differant. Just get a normal bayonet bulb fitting and screw it in to the top of the viv. |

there are 2 types of fitting. Edison screw(ES)and Bayonet cap(BC).
The ES simply screws in to the fitting.
The BC is a push up and turn to fit. |
