I wouldn't of thought the RAM would make any odds, i've got my machine I use in the garage and that has 8mb ram but can still upload a vid to youtube in a decent time. Normally it's connection (especially if wireless) and/or browser problems. This can be worse if running behind a firewalled or NAT'ed router sometimes.
quote from a bloke in the pub last week: In 1969 we put man on the moon with a tape loading spectrum, but in 2009 we'll need a supercomputer to run Windows Vista, where have we gone wrong? |

If it's on the laptop, then the wireless could explain it. A slight judder in the connection and it all goes wrong. However the PC should be able to do it fine, unless you're on virgin media (NTL) and have a high download/upload rate during the day. How many times have you tried so far? Out of curiosity, what archiving software do you use? (Winzip,Winrar,Uharc etc)?
Do you use any kind of messenger? MS, AOL etc? if so, add me and send the file, i'll re-compress as an avi and send it back. That should work then. My messenger addy is on my profile. |

Not a massive difference with speeds, as you can clearly see. You do get a fair drop in ping rate, which can affect file upload, especially if the TTL is low. You wont get a response from packet received before packet send request comes along.
Sorry, probably more techie than you need, but it's the easiest way i can think of to explain at the moment. Can you email me, i'll try to help you sort it then, be easier than going through the forum. Again, my email address is on my profile, it's the one from the hottest mail company on the web. (apparently). It'll be probably about 10am now before i'll be able to respond, but we'll figure something out. Can you tell me what router you have as well.
I'm assuming the useless Virgin modem is plugged into a router/wireless router which is where you can either connect wirelessly or with a wire. Like the Belkin F5d box.
Or do you connect through the Virgin media box? |

Ok so I haven't read the thread in detail so excuse me if I missed something but there is lots of talk about internet speeds BUT the file size is 491MB that's MASSIVE.
Can you not load the video into Windows Movie Maker, cut it down and re save is at a smaller resolution for youtube? My last video put on youtube was 1min 25s and was 11.1MB in size, took a while to upload that. Maybe you could get yours down to below 50MB? http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=qsjPDPrp8Cw |

I was thinking a similar thing to PeteH, i was gonna ask you to send me the vid in question and i'll run it through a decent divx/avi encoder. I've had 4 gig films go down to 800mb-1gb with no loss of quality. I'm not a great moviemaker fan, although i do use it. |
