Wish I could help with this one, but not superb on that i'm afraid. Blackecho will probably be about soon, he seems to be one of the knowledge databases on here. |

I don't know about the lump but perhaps it may be a hemipene thats prolapsed after a failed mating? If your snakes are young (you mentioned the female was 13/14 inches on another post) then a male and female should not be kept together as the female may get pregnant and will not be able to handle the eggs, also the female will be stressed due to pestering from the male (this may explain the regurge and the bad temper).

sounds about spot on Ell, if you seperate them immediately you'll reduce stress, be able to find out which one is off colour and not feeding or has regurged. if either of them are uder 3 years old, under 300g or under 3 feet (90cm) long they should NOT be housed together as they may breed at too young an age. the snakes might be sexually mature but that doesn't mean they should be bred from, just as a 13 year old girl might physically be able to get pregnant, it's not in her best interests emotionally, mentally or physically. |

I would assume it was the female that regurged because the male was pestering her. |

You know what, that should have sprung straight to mind, dunno how I didn't think of it. Oh well, maybe it's a sign of getting old at an early age. |

I didnt say that the female was 13/14 inches. That must be someone else.I think they both are older than 3 years old.I will get more info from my brother & some pics for you. Will the male need to go to the vets for the lump? Thanks

If in doubt about anything, you should take them to the vets. Better safe than sorry.
Any chance of a picture of the lump? We might have a better idea what it is if we could have a look at it. |

Hi Brit, I would echo the above, you obviously have at least 1 snake that is unwell and I would separate them until a cause and cure is found.
I would hazard a guess also that at this time of year its mating-related, however, if the lump on the male is tender you may find that he's constipated, or worse still, has ingested some substrate that it can't digest. Try a luke-warm bath and a gentle massage to see if he needs help passing otherwise its probably vet-time.
Good luck. |
