basically.. followed all your advice about the set up of jaffas tank.. covered 3 sides, got an infrared bulb in there now, to keep temp nice and high, and put loads of hidey holes in etc etc.... HOWEVER!! i feed jaf every 7-10 days... i alternate between the times as i feel it gives him sometihng to think about... i last fed him last monday... brought a lovely little fluff in for him today... and will he go near it.. no... i dangled it, i left it, i put it under the lamp so it'd smell yummy for him... but nothing.. i even cut the bugger in half but hes not tempted!!! how long can i leave it in for before taking it out. i put it in at about 4ish. please any advice would be fab!!!! |

is he due a shed?
are you feeding out of the viv?, if so maybe the ambient room temp is to cold for him.
as for how long to leave in the viv, if you have cut it in 2 i wouldnt leave it. i would defrost another to leave in there. |

leaving the mouse in the cold end it should be fine for 24 hours max.
when did you change his viv about? he might be feeling a bit insecure with lots of new stuff invading his home |

changed his viv about when i got him (27th november).. so a few weeks back now i guess.. i usually feed him in the viv. ive taken out the fluff i cut in 2, and ive put a nicely defrosted one in for him, he didnt strike, but when i put it right under his nose he picked it up, and then dropped it again and slid off!! ive put it in the cold end ontop of his hide in the hope he'll have a midnight snack. he hasnt shed since ive had him, but the reptile shop said he had shed nicely while they had him, but didnt tell me when his last shed was. his eyes arent exactly milky but a little duller than usual, and his colour has dulled a tad so im guessing he's due a shed soon.
thanks for your replies. |

You said he picked it up, then dropped it again. Have you tried keeping hold of it, and making it move? I can only assume that it gives the illusion of a struggling mouse and snakies sometimes prefer knowing that they've killed prey instead of it being delivered. Mine always have a small fight with their mice, they take it better when they've struggled to catch and restrain it. |

i agree with kehhlyr...
give it a little wiggle and make him work for his dinner...i would chuck it on the radiator or edge of a heat mat for a few mins to warm it up first. |

Have you seen the videos of my snakes? http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=FIxpPr-4gb8 In that one i keep the snake 'alive' by wriggling it for a bit longer. This can be affective when people go from live feeding to defrosts. |

and make sure it's really warm, i defrost and heat mine on a radiator like dazb suggested. and Kehhlyr's advice is usually pretty effective too, wiggling it and making it seem alive often works. |

if he is dulling now he may be going into shed, so that would cause a partial lack of appetite in some snakes, at least he fed in the end. never worry about asking questions, its the fools that think they know it all and never ask that cause the damage ;) |
ooops, I bought another......... |
