I've just copied this from a magazine I 'borrowed' from my doctors surgery.
Traditionally, it has been thought that snakes hold tightly enough to prevent the prey from drawing air into its lungs, resulting in death from asphyxia. However, some prey items seem to die faster than would be possible through asphyxia, so it has also been suggested that the pressure of constriction causes a rise in the pressure in the prey's body cavity greater than the heart can counter, resulting in immediate cardiac arrest. This new hypothesis has yet to be confirmed, but data indicates that snakes can exert enough pressure for this mechanism to be plausible. Research into this topic is ongoing
Interesting stuff.
I've also just watched a video where they measure the constriction pressure of an anaconda, it's 90psi, equivalent to having a 4 ton weight just on your chest!! |

| i think i was a documentry like that where they put pressure pads round a chicken and fed it to an anaconda, lol! its amazing the amount of force they can gain. On the subject of constriction Angelina wrapped around her dinner last night for the first time which was amazing to see!! |
