Well, Sid and Slim got a joint xmas pressie a tad early in the post today...

A ExoTerra twin tube light unit, and a 2.0 UVB repti glow 18" tube.
(It'll be a while til Slim is big enough to move into the new viv so I only got the one for now.)

This is what it's going into, been doing bits and bobs slowly for a while now.

and...

Voila!

Nice and bright, but purely for aesthetics.
Highly recommended, like most exo stuff I've bought.

One question I did have though, is at the rep shop I use most, they have tubes in their vivs, with no guard on the tubes, so I assumed that the tubes didn't get hot enough to hurt the occupant.

I've had mine on for a while to test it, and it is hot, I can hold onto it but it is quite warm, do I need to sort a guard? I've never heard of anyone putting a guard on a florescent (sp?) tube, only normal light bulbs?

one of our corns burnt her tail slightly (no lasting damage) while in my OH's brothers viv. so i strongly suggest to get a guard or only turn it on when u are looking at ur snakes.

Oh, and if anyone has seen a tube guard anywhere for sale on the internet, please let me know, I haven't seen one yet so it might be a case of fabricating one.

Tropical fish shop. Most sell heater guards. I've seen some BIG ones in my local place, have a look at those.
