I've just found out that organisations such as the RSPCA are thinking about copying what the Humane Society of the USA are trying to do, by banning people keeping reptiles as pets!
What are we going to do if they do? |

Surely they cant make us all give up our babies that we already have. there has got to be something we can do to prevent it. |

Only my opinion, but if ever such a ban came into force it must only be for the sale of reptiles and not the keeping of them which would make our hobby difficult in future but i don`t believe they could take our snakes etc away from us because what would they do with them? Zoo`s wouldn`t want them and they couldn`t release back into the wild so the only other option would be to cull them but they`re an organisation dealing with cruelty to animals, so that would compromise there position. Don`t get me started.LOL |

At the moment, they are mainly talking about about banning imports, because quite a few of the snakes that are imported into this country are illegally wild caught, which is fine because I believe that if it's born in the wild, it should stay in the wild.
But the RSPCA say that keeping reptiles in captivity is cruel full stop, because they are not 'companion' animals and it's difficult for keepers to recreate a natural environment.
If they push it and ban reptile keeping in general then even captive born snakes will be impossible to buy. Which is stupid, because our pet snakes have been bred specifically for the purpose of being pets, so don't know anything about their natural environments.
I don't think they will really, but it's something to think about. (I've signed a petition against it on the internet, just in case)
They won't get hold of my little ones anyway, because at the end of the day how will they know who's got reps or not?? They can't search everyone's home for vivs can they |

well fish are not companion pets either, i have heard they might try to ban imports which will stop people taking species like royals from the wild, which is not a bad thing and make captive bred reps the only on for sale. the other one i heard was they will try to close down the cricket farm which will make keeping some reps imposible |

I'm going to point out to them that gerbils live in burrows in the dessert in their natural environment - not cages or habistat tunnelly things.
That will lead them away from the reps.

next thing you know, they'll say it's cruel to feed live crickets to lizards and tarantulas.

I had to write an assignment on this last year at colage. I got the fealing that they wernt out for baning the keeping of reptiles as a whole but only placing stronger restrictions on the keeping and import on the more dificult to keep speceas like Chamelions and Uramastix. I don't think that they would be able to ban the keeping of all reptiles perticuly not Corns as they are well on there way to domestication. Im not standing up for the RSPCA because they can be compleat morons perticuly when it comes to reptiles, we had a bunch of tranee inspectors at colage practicing there handaling techneques on our snakes most of them where terified. LOL |

COME ON THE GERBILS mine died 2 years ago If they are thinking of banning reptiles as pets they should think again. Why can't they make reptile owners have a special license as you do for other animals
