Het is short for Heterozygous, genes come in pairs, if the pair are the same they are called Homozygous, if they are different they are called Heterozygous.
In corns, most genes are recessive to Normal, so to be visual they need to have both genes (Homozygous). For instance, if a Corn was described as het Amel, it would mean it had 1 Amel gene and one normal gene. As Amel is recessive it would be visually normal. |

but bred with another amel or het amel snake there's a chance some of the hatchlings will visually be amels |

Yes, as both parents could then pass the gene down to the offspring, meaning that it has 2 and would hence be homozygous and visual. |

I've kept different snakes on and off for years, and the easiest way i can think to describe 'het' is:
If you are a serious breeder, then you'll know what it means. If not, then you don't really need it.
This doesn't really explain what it means, but it simplifies if you need to know what it means. Or the HET *could* mean different types of snake you *could* get if you were to breed that snake. |

rite so if a snake is 100%het then i guess that means all it genes are hetrozygous? cross between 2 homozygous "pure breds" so 1/2 of the offspring should be wat u want. |

If you bred a homozygous to a normal, all the offspring would be 100% het.
If you bred a homozygous with another homozygous all offspring would be homozygous.
If you bred a homozygous with a heterozygous, 50% would be homozygous, 50% heterozygous. |

they'd by homozygous if the other homozygous was exactly the same. I get the genetics bit cause we did it last year in zoology. Jst dont get the 100%het thing

the '100% het' means all the babies from that clutch are going to be that 'het'.
if its '50% het' that means all the babies have 50/50 chance of being that 'het' but cant be certain of which ones hold the 'het'. This normally happens when you have 2 different morphs as parents.
