They're Cherry Valley ducks. I used to have aylesburys a few years back, but trying to get hold of them now is not easy. There is someone who breeds these ducks about a mile away from me, but she wanted 20 quid EACH, so after a quick hunt on this thingy called 'the interweb' i found someone in southampton who is selling them for 2.50 each. It made sense to waste a tenner in fuel to get 4. 20 quid for 4, or 20 quid for 1. Not a hard choice really. At the moment they're living in our bathroom, because like snakes, when they're young they can't regulate their body temps properly so need to be kept warm. So that gives me about 4 weeks to clear a space in the garage to build an in-to-out run for them, with a puddle for them to play in.
They only hatched yesterday (19th), so within a week or so they should be imprinted. |

They are GORGEOUS!! Are they easy to keep? I woudl seriously love to get one, but my cats would have a field day. Are they ok to be away from their mum so early? |

They are fairly easy to keep, providing they have safe lockup overnight, or when you're away for a good few hours, then they'll be happy. I've not actually gotten round to starting to build the run yet, but will soon, as well as a small pondy type thing for them. |

I am thinking of calling the last 2 'orange' and 'sauce' actually.
But her indoors is stopping me. |

Curry the goat, lol.
Here's a horrible thing about curries for you though: When i was but a very small Kehhlyr, up until about 6 or 7, my nan used to make us these lovely curries when she came over to visit from india, but she used to bring the meat with her and it was only about 2 months ago when i said about bringing my snakes over to show her when she just responded with 'if you do I can make us a nice curry.' I did question what she meant and that was when she told me that it used to be snake-meat curry that she'd make, she only stopped doing it when she could no longer bring meat across on the plane. Cheers nan. Although if i'm perfectly honest, they were really nice. Sorry all. |
