Hi Phil2, and Welcome to the forum.

First off, i'd like to say Well done, and Congrats.
You've asked a lot of questions so far on Vivs that most people often don't ask until they've already got snakes. Mass points from me for that.

And in answer to your question:

Provided you have a stat, it shouldn't get too hot on the placcy tub.
The heat mats only heat what they contact and the plastic tubs will withstand a fair heat before causing probs, but even then you wont have that difficulty because you need to hit about 60 C before they start going odd.

In response to your question about will a 5 footer be difficult to handle, i agree with Matty18714, I would say no.
My granddaughter, (3years old, less than 3ft tall), loves my male snow and he's 5ft(give or take) and he can be handled by her easily enough.
I've had piccys taken this evening of me with all three of mine wrapped around me and that's nearly 13 foot of cornsnake around my neck/shoulders/head and they were no problem.
Pics going up soon.

Good luck on picking the perfect Corn, and feel free to ask questions, aside from seeing pics of peoples snakes, we do like questions too.
