British Gas gave my details out (without my consent) to a third party who nearly came to my house to replace my electricity meter.
There is a huge long and extended story in advance of this that basically summises in them taking 18 months to get my bills right and trying to take me to court over their own mistakes.
I can sue them, right? |

From what I can make out, even just them giving out your details to a third party is a brech of the data protectipn act, so you may well want to gather all your info and speak to a solicitor.
I had British gas phone me yesterday to tell me my bill was outstanding, so i just said "Thank you", and hung up.
Wonder if they were impressed with the wit? |

lmao i like that, siliconscience i would consult a solicitor cos they are not allowed to do it as like kehhlyr said it is against data protection. |

I think a strongly worded letter is needed to say the least.
Go get 'em! |

They shouldn have done that, so i recommned kicking thier rear ends for it. As long as you ticked the box where it says in the small print of not allowing your details to be passed on to third parties, you will have a lovely pay packet coming out of thier pockets. My gas company SWALEC a few months ago were being naughty overcharging me my gas bill by £70. So i totally understand that big time. |

Strongly worded letter sent legal action to follow if they don't offer me some sort of super compensation. Given that 'm already in credit on my electricity account they have to give me money really.. lol! |

Depends really, many companies have a little box at the bottom of forms, if you notice and dont check it then they can pass your data on, but otherwise if its not clearly stated in their policies then you should be entitled to some compensation...not sure if its worth it though, i expect it will cost more dont than you will get to be honest. |
