I have read somewhere that ur corn snake has to hibernate in the winter is this correct, this is what it actually says.
Hibernation To hibernate a snake for the winter, make sure it has had no food for two weeks and that the temperature is normal during this time allowing the snake to fully digest it's last meal and empty it's guts. After this the temperature should be lowered gradually over a few weeks until its 55-60 degree F . The snake should not be fed during this period but fresh drinking water should be available at all times. After 10-12 weeks the snake can gradually be warmed up over a two week period and can then be offered food again.
is this correct does everyone on here do this and if so when do i start to do it. thnx |

Its not essential AFAIK but something you'd probably do if you were a breeder with loads of snakes to save money etc. |

I have read about this but it was in the 'Breeding' section of the corn snake manual. So I guess it only applies to breeders. |

If you want a better chance of breeding then it is wise to 'Brumate' (snakes don't hibernate), but it is not necessary. |

anyone that's telling you to 'hibernate' your snake IMHO isn't worth listening to! like BE says snakes 'brumate' not hibernate. cooling can help with breeding the next Spring, however leaving snakes 'cool' for that length of time means you're opening your snake up to disease, eg respiratory infections, which it can usually fight off when warm.
