Okay, I'm complete new to snakes... I've always wanted on, and have just convinced my mum to buy me one for my birthday in November.

But...

Before I even think about bringing one into my life I want to make sure I know everything I need to...

Would it be possible to tell me what I need to know please (I know I probable sound really stupid!)

I have a 2.5ft viv, is that going to be big enough?
What lights etc will he need?
What Substrate do I need to use...

Erm, my heads gone blank now...

Any help would be much appricated

Thanks in advance

A 2.5' viv is sort of inbetween really, a bit big for a hatchling and a bit small for an adult. If you were to put a hatchling in it make sure there are plenty of hiding places, but you may not see them much.

Corns are nocturnal so don't need lights.

Substrate I use Aspen, other use Beech Chips.

Have you already named your Corn (in Sig) despite not having it yet

A 2.5ft viv would be ok for a yearling, but a 3-4ft viv would be better for an adult. A light is not needed by the snake, but if you want to put a light in for display you can, just make sure it doesnt give off much heat. I use hemp as a substrate.

Go ahead with any questions!

Thank you guys *hugs*

Sorry if I sound like a complete idiot...

I was told to feed my little corn snake once a week, is that right?
What do I do if he won't eat?

You'd also need:
heatmat covering about 1/3 of the viv floor space, ideally controlled by a stat.
large water bowl so they can curl up in it as well as drink from it.
at least 2 hides - one at each end.

Thanks guys.
I'm really glad I found this site, everyone's been so nice and helpful.

I've been speaking to my mum, and it's going to be at least a couple of months before I get my baby... So, at least I have plenty more time to research, although I'm really gutted I can't get him sooner!!
