What is the proper way of feeding snakes this type of food? Anything i need to look out for? Are the mice supposed to smell bad? When i bought the snake they threw in 2 little bags each having 1 pinkie in it. They really smelled! Is that how it normally is?

I haven't experienced smelly mice before, so I wouldn't recommend you use the ones you were given if they smell really bad.
Were they thawed out when the pet store gave them to you or frozen?

I agree- they are dead rodents so you've got to expect some smell, but if it's really bad I wouldn't feed them to my babies.

I always use frozen pinkies and I've never had a 'bad' smell off any of them. They have smelled 'mousey' but not bad. I suggest throwing them out if they smell like they are rotting and personally I would complain to the pet store to or else theres nothing to stop them from giving you bad mice again. I've heard that sometimes corn snakes will eat carrion but I wouldn't think it particulary healthy for them and you wouldn't want to risk the hassel of re-gurge anyway.

I figured out why they smelled. The car ride home thawed the mice (they each come in bag, just like a candy bar would) and i guess that hot temperature outside and the car made them stink.

Hi Peter
At least you found out the reason why and know that its not a bad batch from the shop.
Worth taking an ice pack next time?

If mice smell bad, its probably because they are.
You will get a distinct mouse smell, that you will get used to, but no more of a smell than you would from a chicken or joint, as the mice would have been farmed to a standard condition and shock frozen after death.

I thaw mine in cold water and then warm them in warm water before drying and feeding. The snake takes in water too that the mouse holds, which helps it to pass.
