Over the winter Hen stayed in her cool hide for 90% of the time. About 3-4 weeks ago I had a hunch that she was going to lay unfertilized eggs, she looked a fraction larger.

Yesterday I came home and checked up on her and there is a white mass with yellow patches laying half burried in the substrate. It was above the heat mat. Its a tiny bit smaller than her head.

After I found it, she shed. Then this morning I found another one.

I have checker her over and felt her belly and I recon there is at least 2 more to come.

So, any thoughts? How can I make the whole thing easier on her? Shes never been bred from.

I'd probably bath her- that should help if there is more to pass.

Can you get any photos on them so we can have a look?

Yeah, I will get some soon. Im sure they are eggs. They are getting softer after being off the meat mat for a while. I have bagged them both.

Yep, they are definitely slugs.

Are you sure she's not been bred in the past? Some snakes can retain sperm for years.

Im 99% sure shes never bred. Her owners before had her since she was tiny and she was the only snake they ever had.

So, now im 100% that they are eggs, is it worth me setting up a nesting box to coax her into laying the rest?

Could be a good idea, it won't hurt anyway. A nesting box is just like a damp hide, so easy to mate. I'm off to do some research for you so will be back soon.

Everything I've read says that as long as she doesn't become egg bound it can be normal for her to pass slugs. Sometimes they are reabsorbed so they don't pass, but really it's just watching her now to make sure they pass alright.

Baths and gentle massage can help as well as putting a nesting box in.

Also, slugs are hard to pass because they are dry, so make sure she's got plenty of water as she might try to rehydrate herself a lot.

Apart from that it's fingers crossed. She's a large adult though, so she should be able to squeeze them out.

Ok cheers. I have just cleaned and disinfected the tub I used as Zavvi's damp hide. I will see if I have another water bowl and I will keep an eye on her.

I have leveled the substrate, hopfuly it will make it easier to notice anything laid outside of the nest box. I've had another feel and I recon its 4 more slugs to go.

Gentle massage for Henry tonight then eh?

Put some soothing music and burn some aromatherapy oils on to put her in the mood. You know you want to
