Posted - 15/01/2010 : 22:02:44 Yep, they are hopefully going to be parents lol.
Casper looked pretty pleased after 7 years of virginity to finally be getting some action. They tied in for around 30 mins, I have got photos but they were right up against the front of the viv, so angles and light were dodgy.
Will be uploading the pics asap, they are now back in their own vivs relaxing. |

Fingers crossed for her! Incubator getting sorted this week.
Fantastic news SB, sounds as though Mushu (and you) are doing everything right - not that I know anything about breeding !
Thanks for keeping us up to date...looking forward to pics soon!!

Cheers GP, you're a star!! |

Posted - 28/01/2010 : 22:32:32 yeah best off keeping them separate then!
give it 2 weeks and then have a feel of her as she moves through your hand, if she feels lumpy, regularly spaced lumps, it's likely! |

Posted - 28/01/2010 : 22:14:17 she's good.... seperated them now by putting Syd in his own viv. They've had quite a few 'sessions' now. Put them together for a last fumble tonight but I think she's had enough coz she turned and struck at him...... daft snake bit herself first so I got him out sharpish. Not putting them back together now, just going to keep an eye on her and hopefully see some signs of eggs.

Posted - 28/01/2010 : 21:55:02 you can as the eggs get more developed inside the female, and when the eggs get so big she won't want to eat as there's basically no room and it's really uncomfy for her to get a mouse down..........how's your female doing YD? |

Posted - 28/01/2010 : 21:34:58 so can you tell when they are gravid? visually or by feeling? |

Posted - 28/01/2010 : 19:44:34 Right- They first mated about 2 weeks ago, have been mated about 5 times since then. She definitely is fatter now than she was before hence why I weighed her.
I believe that Mushu will undergo a pre lay shed, and then eggs will appear within 2 weeks. So maybe another 2 weeks until the shed and then another 2 till lay?
Like I said, I'm no expert! |

Posted - 28/01/2010 : 19:34:10 so how long does it take from "doing the deed" to being able to visually tell she is gravid and how long till eggs are laid? |

wow thats some serious weight gain!
fingers crossed it all goes well and you get some very cute hatchies... hmmm forum discount perhaps?? |

Posted - 28/01/2010 : 05:16:07 Fantastic pic...although I am not sure Casper and Mushu will be too happy having their 'private moment' splashed across the net! But it is very interesting for those of us who know nothing about breeding to see a pic of 2 snakes 'doing it'!
Any idea yet whether Mushu is going to be a mum? How long before you should be able to tell? How do you tell?

You know what this means, i need a girlie snake now!!! any ideas what female would compliment Steve and of course what kind of babies they would have? Got to do some serious sucking up to hubby to let me have a female snake now :)
Just remember the rule of 3 - the female needs to be 3 years old, 3ft long and over 300g before it is safe to breed her.
Not sure about the male...think poor Steve might feel a little daunted were he to be put with a breeding female at the moment!!!

I know i'm being premature here but if i was to seriously think about getting a female would like to do it now so they would grow up together and be the same age, plus it's an excuse to have a snake of my own lol |
