Hiya,
Sorry if this is a stupid question, it seems a few people on here have owned male corns that have turned out to be girls when they've been found laying eggs, can female corns lay eggs without being in contact with a male? Just wondered, Thanks |

I won't worry too much then! Not bothered about whether Vin is really male or female as he's not for breeding and won't be around other corns, when we got him the OH referred to him as him and that was it! Thanks for clearing that up for me :-) |

most of the time infertile eggs are absorbed by the snakes body before they fully develop so the calcium can be reused |

Its not worth worrying about your snake potentially laying slugs, its either going to happen or its not. There is nothing you can do to prevent it apart from providing sub-standard conditions and messing with its photoperiod. |

it's easier to mis-sex a male corn than a female
i'd always recommend getting them popped or probed on several occasions and preferably by a couple of different (experienced and trusted!) people
the only way i'm 100% positive on sex is when they've laid eggs or been proven/bred  |

Yep they can lay unfertile eggs,but not every snake will.
I unfortunately have a cockatiel that does this every year,very frustrating.
A lot of *male* corns that people have bought have ended up laying eggs as they were cohabited. |

Thanks Lixra :-) just wondered and thought oh god what if Vin's not a he, but a she who might lay random infertile eggs and get eggbound! He's not been probed to determine sex, I just based it on tail taper. Having read recent posts, the reality of how risky breeding can be has scared me, and when I thought I might get infertile eggs unintentionally it worried me even more! |

They can lay infertile eggs I believe, but as far as I'm aware, there hasn't been a case of parthenogenesis with corn snakes.
I had a leopard gecko that did this to me one time, never bred her, and went off her feed, so took her to the vet and was told she was gravid. She ended up passing infertile eggs. |
