I just had a clutch hatch that i cant figure out. If someone has can explain it, please do so :)

I bred 2 normal (carolinas) looking corns with eachother and i didnt know anything about any hets.

The male is a carolina stripe that was bred with another normal last year and the offspring was 100% normal looking (het. stripe i guess).

The female is a carolina that has earlier produced aztek offspring (with another striped male) and that was what i was hoping for this year too...

The cluch that hatched was like this:

26 eggs laid

Hatched:
8 carolina
4 anery
3 amel
2 snow
3 hypo
1 ghost
2 anery stripe
1 snow motley
1 normal motley

Last egg died :(

Can anyone figure out the hets on the parents here? However i try, i cant get it together as the offspring is just "wrong" and not possible however i calculate.

/Magnus

Ah ok... it is all confusing as to what is classed as what when it comes to Motleys/Stripes.

I have posted 3 corns for sale on here which I have classed as M/S's, I would be interested to know what you would class them as, if you dont mind having a look?
eeji Posted - 12/07/2010 : 18:35:02
its very variable, so long as theres stripe present on the motley it can be called pinstripe. There is another slight variation that is called 'q-tip' which is like a bit of striping coming out of a motley circle.

It is Hiper...

Its all to do with when the stripe genetics were first dicovered/proved. Thats why you get Stripes, Motleys and Motley/Stripes.

Cheers eeji, I didnt realise that Pinstripes were what I class as M/S.

Do the same rules apply to classing them as Pinstripes and not Stripes.

ie... The stripe can stop and start as it goes down the body, but the stripes should never join across...?

@Daz - yup :)

pinstripe motley is motley that looks like a stripe, but isn't if you know what i mean

Sounds way to confusing lol

What is a pinstripe motley?

What I mean is if they are motleys line bred to look like stripes, hence the Motley/Stripe, would this not give you both motleys and visual stripes (which are actually motleys?)
eeji Posted - 10/07/2010 : 21:22:52
if the parents are het for both, then they'd be visually motleys. The only way I can think that 'both' have been produced is if:

1. the 'stripe' parent is actually a pinstripe motley het stripe AND
2. the normal pattern parent is het motley AND
3. the 'stripe' hatchlings are pinstripe motleys
