Posted - 02/02/2010 : 08:54:54 Last night i set up my new viv (see photo section)...
I moved stellas faun, to put the viv underneath it, and her heat mat had cracked the cabinet underneath.
Its an oak cabinet i think, solid wood.
Would this happen to the viv when its inside?
If so should i put polystyrene underneath it?
Thanks

Yer Gaz glad you're deciding to get the bigger one. I got the 17 X 11 for that exact same viv and its just the ticket!
Be perfect when Stella's a little bigger. Glad to hear she's growing well now she has a good owner feeding her well!
EDIT: Oh and you've got it right, the holes are supposed to be at the bottom! |

I managed to get her to eat last week for the first time unassisted and she virtually struck the pinky right outta me fingers so hopefully she has sorted out her appetite its just she has gone into shed now and her last shed was appauling so I am expecting trouble this time but you never know she may suprise me. Would be nice to see a one piece shed as i think she is in a much better place now than she was last time she shed so fingers crossed.
Sorry to hear that, I missed your thread too. Good luck with her mate. Let us know.
GP: Good point well made |

Posted - 02/02/2010 : 22:00:37 the other thing to bear in mind is that some heatmats like the E-T Rainforest ones are designed to run with an air gap underneath (and are even supplied with 'feet' to raise a flat-bottomed viv to allow air circulation) and also state they should only be used with GLASS vivs....... |

Posted - 02/02/2010 : 16:57:34 Xena the warrior princess! I read your thread about her last week, wasnt aware she was yours.
How is she doing now? |

Posted - 02/02/2010 : 16:55:43 same age as my xena then and she is less than half that size but she had a bad start. |

Posted - 02/02/2010 : 16:18:57 No worries.
Her last shed was 4 weeks ago and about 22" in length. So she was about 20" then, and has grown a bit since.
She weighs about 32g at the moment.
She is 8 months old, but was on a maintenence diet before i got her. Shes was 12g when i got her 2 months ago, so shes growing fast.

Thanks for the info.
I just wondered why it was, im not that bothered that it is damaged, it cant be seen now the viv is on there.
Cheers

Posted - 02/02/2010 : 12:05:43 Yeh thats true, i suppose its possible,
Im not that bothered about the unit anyway, it did cost £400 but theres a viv on it now anyway :-) Lol.
Just didnt want the same to happen to the viv.
Thanks

Posted - 02/02/2010 : 11:57:34 Maybe the wood had slight dampness, the mat could have had a drying effect on it? |
Gaz_1989 |
Posted - 02/02/2010 : 11:44:52 Could it be because its hard wood? It has cracked the grain right open (about 3mm-5mm)
Thanks

Posted - 02/02/2010 : 11:37:57 I'm with Kehhlyr, a 30c mat shouldnt be able to crack wood. It can withstand human body temp, and we are roughly 37c.
It will be fine in the viv. |
