Posted - 28/01/2010 : 09:53:56 Steve is about 3 and a half months old, measuring about 14/15 inches, weight 12g last time i weighed him on Sunday.
He takes one small pinkie very easily every 5 days now and actually took the pinkie from the tweezers for the first time on his last feed I need to start weighing his pinkies now, do i weight them frozen or once defrosted? Also for Steve's size what would be the recommended amount of pinkies and weight to give him? He had his last pinkie on Sunday night so is due another tomorrow but he has been out and about the last 2 days almost as if he is looking for more food.

Well Steve was fed again last night, before we fed him though i weighed him, he weighs in at 14g now so well pleased. He took 2 x 2g pinkies...... ate the second pinkie quicker than the first, is there a reason why they do this? the first one seems to take ages to go down but the second one gets swallowed so much easier.
Think this is because with the first pinkie/mouse (whatever size it is) they have to adjust the size of their jaw/mouth to the size of their prey....whereas with the second 'meal' everything is adjusted to the size already and must go down easier having had the way prepared for them!!

Posted - 09/02/2010 : 20:20:04 I know. This has been a real uphill struggle. Me and my mate struggled for days keeping her alive and it has all come worth it in the end. Now she is bright and sparky and is a snake dustbin. I simply cant wait till she is Colins size she will be a stunner. A result and a large part of it has to do with advice filtered down from you lot. |

Posted - 09/02/2010 : 10:41:43 Well Steve was fed again last night, before we fed him though i weighed him, he weighs in at 14g now so well pleased. He took 2 x 2g pinkies, the second one my son was trying to feed him it, he is struggling a bit and getting quite upset cause he is finding it hard to hold on to the pinkie for so long bless him, anyway he ended up dropping it into the rub and as he went to try and lift it back up Steve struck at the tweezers, my son cr@pped himself. LOL, shouldn't laugh really but it was cute to see Steve defending his prey!! Told him to back of and leave it in the rub for Steve to get himself. Which he did and once again ate the second pinkie quicker than the first, is there a reason why they do this? the first one seems to take ages to go down but the second one gets swallowed so much easier. |

Posted - 29/01/2010 : 13:21:45 I've thought the same thing with Snickers. She looks funny trying to move to her hide (if she had legs i'd say she was waddling). She reminds of a woman that is due any day now.quote: Originally posted by Gaz_1989

Posted - 29/01/2010 : 08:52:16 Personally, if it was me, i would give him a 2g + 1g, then 2 x 2g, keep him on this for a couple of feeds.
Then 3g + 2g and so on.
If he is devouring them. I did this with Stella and she has grown well since ive had her.

i have 1x 1g pinkie left, then i have 5x 2g pinkies, 5x 3g pinkies, 4x 4g pinkies

Posted - 28/01/2010 : 12:09:24 Sorry Gaz I didnt catch you post till I had replied. The thing is everyone has different ways of doing things and it just my opinion but a lot of it has to do with what works best for your snake which we all find out by tweaking things and gradually learning by trial and error. I have noticed myself that what works for one snake wont nessesarily work for another as they are all individuals and as such have individual needs. Seems to me the members of this forum know that and respect eachothers opinion which is nice to see. And sorry I have just completely hijacked this thread sorry mom |
