Bear in mind that corns live in hot, quite dry places, not tropical, so soil would be out of place for an authentic setup. Beech and aspen looks good and very natual if used with good decor.

i just use shredded paper, its free, easy to get hold of - all my bills and things get used and its easy to dispose of.. fair enough its not the best looking substrate but it does the job

i use aspen on one side of the viv and beech chippings on the other looks really good..

Aspen is O.K. but if anyone in the house has asthma, the dust could be a problem, plus it goes mouldy if left wet. I use beech chippings for all my reptiles.

Aspen is a good substrate, it will allow your snakey to burrow.
Check out this thread it will give you a few different options:

dont use soil, far too much bacteria and spores. stick to the specially made rep stuff.

newspaper or beech chippings are the good ones. welcome to the forum btw, you should head on over to introductions and say hi.
