i have a wooden enclosure with sliding glass doors and im currently using aspen as my substrate.
what other substrates can i use that wont harm my corn snake or damage my enclosure that are relativly easy to clean.

newspaper or beech chippings are the good ones. welcome to the forum btw, you should head on over to introductions and say hi.

is there any type of soil i cud use? i read somewhere that u cud but i aint too sure if i can

dont use soil, far too much bacteria and spores. stick to the specially made rep stuff.

Aspen is a good substrate, it will allow your snakey to burrow.

Aspen is O.K. but if anyone in the house has asthma, the dust could be a problem, plus it goes mouldy if left wet. I use beech chippings for all my reptiles.

i use aspen on one side of the viv and beech chippings on the other looks really good..



2 male corns (Bilbo and roger)
1 female corn (lizzie)
2 dogs westies (jock & morag)
5 mirror carp
3 common carp
3 tench
5 gold fish

i just use shredded paper,its free, easy to get hold of - all my bills and things get used and its easy to dispose of.. fair enough its not the best looking substrate but it does the job

thanks for finding my sticky on this topic lucifer, though i'm quite amused that the swear filter has ***'d out 'coarse' and 'prickly' lmfao

A question Lucifer - why does HannahB only get to list Montana, Edison and Liberty as her snakes but you get to list them and Lucien, Zero and Aura??? xxx

oi thats not fair..im not lazy.. can be active when i want to be

i dont have the technical know-how to sort it myself Kellog.. luke is the one who sorts that..i just take the pretty pictures

ok i wont use soil then lol i wanted to make my enclosure look as natural as possible aspen is good but does look crappy

Bear in mind that corns live in hot, quite dry places, not tropical, so soil would be out of place for an authentic setup. Beech and aspen looks good and very natual if used with good decor.
