Sorry if this is the wrong section, not sure where to post it tbh!

My little question is about getting Bam insured. when filling in the form, it asks how much the snake is worth. Well I payed £30 for bam as a hatchling, so if I put that in I only get cover for vet fees. Or do I put in his adult value? If so How much would an adult go for?? Im no good with these sort of things, and Im a bit confused!! Can anyone help me please??

Also who do you insure your snakes through? I can only find one place, Exotic direct?

none of my animals are insured. What my family does instead is put money aside each month for vets bills etc. Ive had animals my whole life (nearly 18 years) so we have done it that long and its worked for us. I have never had to go to the vets with my reptiles, its the mammals that cost a bomb!

Oh is that all!!! well I have decided not to bother with insurance then!! But How come your wallet was £600 lighter matty?? What on earth had you been doing to your snake? lol!
Kazerella Posted - 24/08/2009 : 14:19:20
And when Evra had mites - it was £31 including the Frontline
Kazerella Posted - 24/08/2009 : 14:18:18
When Nagini had an R.I it cost me a whopping £17.50 (and that was including meds)
misstwinkle Posted - 24/08/2009 : 14:07:47
thats my good deed of the day:)
matty18714 Posted - 24/08/2009 : 14:03:26
I agree that insurance isnt worth it (even if my wallet is £600 lighter). I wouldnt of thought you would pay more than £100 for something like a bad RI (which a corn getting in the first place is unlikly).
devilsmistress Posted - 24/08/2009 : 13:59:20
Thats a good idea! I have a savings account so Can transfer and withdraw instantly. Might just do thet then! Thanks

i dont bother with pet insurance, like sexybear said its one of those funny things. what i done was open another bank account and i put abit of money in each month. then its there if i need to take any of them to the vets.
devilsmistress Posted - 24/08/2009 : 12:58:11
Well To help me make my mind up, Have you had to take your snake to the vet, and whats te biggest bill you have had? Say for a rep infection, what would I be looking at? Like you say if they are hardy and kept right, I shouldnt need the insurance really should I?
SexyBear77 Posted - 24/08/2009 : 12:47:41
mmm, insurance is one of those funny things- its useless if you never need it, but if you need it and dont have it then its really important. I insure my horses and dogs, cats etc. but not my snakes.
Kazerella Posted - 24/08/2009 : 12:28:57
It sounds alright- but I'm not sure wether I would bother. The only thing there that seems worth while is the vet bills, but with appropriate care they are unlikely to get ill anyway. They are pretty hardy.

I think theft and death are just things that would upset you, but the money the insurance would give you wouldn't bring your snake back or heal the upset

But it is up to you. If you feel more secure having insurance then go for it. I do know someone who got hit with a vet bill for £600 this year, so it would be well worth it if something like that did come up.
devilsmistress Posted - 24/08/2009 : 12:18:53
Thats what i was thinking. They will insure me on death, theft and £1000 vet bills for £118 i think it was, is that good or bad??
Kazerella Posted - 24/08/2009 : 12:16:02
£100 is good too- I've seen adults go for that and with insurance it's better to be over-protected than under
devilsmistress Posted - 24/08/2009 : 11:49:40
Pet plan directyou back to exotic direct! I did put in £100, but then thought I ask on here to check If i put in what I pyed or his adult value, if that makes sence?? Thanks Kazerella, Ill see what quote I get with that!!
Kazerella Posted - 24/08/2009 : 11:34:38
I would put at least £60

I think Pet Plan do a special exotics insurance too, but I've never really looked into it.
