yeah, just a good stanley blade will work. keep it pretty flat to the surface and it shouldnt dig in.

If you can pull a bit of it up it may just peel off, if not, run a stanley blade down each side and it will come off (careful not to scratch the melamine).

I am sorry you used normal sealant, despite the advice given. I know your dad's friend might have used it but the people giving you advice on here (quite a few of them) are corn snake owners and experts and do know whats best. I do hope the sealant doesnt effect your snake if you dont change it. xxx

"Normal" selant has chemicals in it to stop mould growing on it. Its not good for the snake. I would cut the selant out and then do it again.

fair enough, its your snake after all- I just dont get why people choose to ignore the same piece of advice from lots of different people...
Chimp276 Posted - 21/08/2009 : 12:22:58
well my friends dad makes his own vivs and has like 20 royals, and he said just use normal sealant
SexyBear77 Posted - 21/08/2009 : 12:12:03
coz of the chemicals thats in it- you REALLY should have used aquarium sealant...
Chimp276 Posted - 21/08/2009 : 11:54:16
How will it be hazardous wen the snake wnt touch the sealant, plus their is no water for the chemicals in the sealant to diffuse into? Anyhow its too late just sealed it with normal silicone sealant!
gingerpony Posted - 19/08/2009 : 22:00:59
definitely get aquarium stuff though, normal silicon sealant is potentially hazardous even when the fumes go.........
punumbear Posted - 19/08/2009 : 21:59:06

I sealed my new viv with aquarium sealant and I've never sealed anything in my life! surprisingly, it looked good!
Remmy Posted - 19/08/2009 : 17:58:12
As above clear aquarium selant. If you dont seal it liquids can get underneath and blow the wood.

yes it is worth doin as they have a long warranty and the warranty is invalid if not ...i buy vivexotic cos they last along time up to 20 years so they claim.....u should have a piece of paper with it telling u the conditions
Stumpy Posted - 19/08/2009 : 17:28:03
I used clear sealant around the edges of mine and when it dried it looks as if there is nothing there.
Chimp276 Posted - 19/08/2009 : 16:55:07
cheers matty i will get some tomorrow lol!
matty18714 Posted - 19/08/2009 : 16:53:15
Use aquarium selant, it also has the bonus of being clear.
Chimp276 Posted - 19/08/2009 : 16:48:30
