Use aquarium selant, it also has the bonus of being clear.

I used clear sealant around the edges of mine and when it dried it looks as if there is nothing there.

As above clear aquarium selant. If you dont seal it liquids can get underneath and blow the wood.

definitely get aquarium stuff though, normal silicon sealant is potentially hazardous even when the fumes go.........

How will it be hazardous wen the snake wnt touch the sealant, plus their is no water for the chemicals in the sealant to diffuse into? Anyhow its too late just sealed it with normal silicone sealant!

"Normal" selant has chemicals in it to stop mould growing on it. Its not good for the snake. I would cut the selant out and then do it again.

I am sorry you used normal sealant, despite the advice given. I know your dad's friend might have used it but the people giving you advice on here (quite a few of them) are corn snake owners and experts and do know whats best. I do hope the sealant doesnt effect your snake if you dont change it. xxx

If you can pull a bit of it up it may just peel off, if not, run a stanley blade down each side and it will come off (careful not to scratch the melamine).
