no no no sand, and as the above peeps have said, dont buy from that shop as they obviously dont know what they are talkin about.

agree with all of the above
shredded paper is really good for substrate..might not look so good but the snakes enjoy burrowing around and its free and a good way to get rid of those bills and things

Agree with all of the above, especially hillzi, i wouldn`t buy from that shop

I use aspen, I would never use Aquarium sand for a snake.

I agree with all of the above, its also abrasive and gets into nostril etc.

gingerpony Posted - 18/08/2009 : 21:40:17
sand is for sand boas.............. and hoggies!!
hillzi Posted - 17/08/2009 : 16:41:26
Well then I wouldn't buy from that shop. The snake couldv'e ingested some, you buy it, then a few days later wake up to a dead corn.

ANY sand + cornsnake = bad idea

even more so if its amde from crushed shells
hillzi Posted - 17/08/2009 : 10:11:36
calci sand = NO NO.

If your snake ingests sand, it will almost certaintly result in death.

Better off asking on here though TBH before you went ahead and did it (if you were planning to)

theres a great section on substrates in the care sheet.

I think alot of people on here will disagree with what the pet shop have told you I've been told sand is a no no for snakes

not sure if sand's a good idea with snakes. maybe hoggies but not corns. doesn't it get stuck in their scales etc?
