so what's the best method for measuring the temps, on top of the substrate or on top of the heatmat ?

I reckon I'll use the digital probes for underneath the substrate and check the top of the substrate with the temp gun every now and then.

Posted - 11/08/2009 : 18:34:34 I put it on the heat mat with only a thin layer of substrate on top. If you get 85f on top of the substrate then the temp on the heat mat can get to over 95f. |

Posted - 11/08/2009 : 13:53:57 I measure on top of the substrate (bark), if I put a thermometer directly onto the heat mat it shoots up into the 50's but doesn't really reflect the temp that Monty experiences (he never burrows). |
