do i place the thermometer and thermostat probe's directly on the glass, or do i place it on the substrate?

Both my thermostat and Temp probes are stuck to the glass bottom of my Terrarium directly above where the heat mat is stuck to the under side, with substrate lightly spread over them.

it goes directly on the mat because snakes can easily burrow down into the substrate and touch the mat directly

i put it wedged into the substrate over the mat as generally thats where the snakes will be

the mat is under the terrarium...stuck to the bottom

directly on the mat. if using a faun the bottom of the faun under the substrate
