well as ive put up before our snake javi isnt eating but hes been more active than usaul rubbing his head off his viv and putting himself in and out his water quite a lot , is this hints that he is ready for a shed? my boyfriend phoned the place we got him from and got told he could be also looking to be fed so we are going to try him again tomorrow night but a lot ive red up on it seems hes ready for a shed but his eyes arent in blue yet .. |

You are right mites can come in the substrate also off of clothing as well.
It's worth checking for mites just to rule them out.
Like Georgina said try turning the temp down a degree aswell.

He may have had them when you got him, or if you use aspen sometimes they can come in that I think. He may not have, it may just be the temp is a little high as Georgina said, but it's worth checking. |

As no one has mentioned it yet have you checked for mites.
Sometimes the rubbing and soaking is an indication of mites this is due to them irritating the skin of snakey.
Check the water bowl for signs of dead mites and also check snakey the easiest way is to run your hand over the snake over a peace of white kitchen towel any mites will fall off on to the kitchen towel being dark they will show up easier against the white of the towel.
If you don't find any you can at least rule this out as a possible cause.

well his heat mats only at one part of his tank and its at the right tempeture we also have 2 hides, a cave at the warm side and a toilet roll tube at the cold side. for the first week getting him he was quite nosey and exploring but hes more active than he has been this week! and hasnt been curled up for long! hes very very active lol and well we arent sure how old he is but we think hes about 2 months old atleast i have pictures up on this in the picture bit of this forum but a was just wondering because we arent sure if hes ready to shed or not and cant get a good view of his stomach as hes been on the move alot this week lol |

If he is a he, its normal breeding season behaviour unless he is very young.
As for shedding their bellies turn milky first them they dull and his eyes will gone cloudy and then he will clear and normally shed within the next week.
Some times snakes are overly active, off their food and sit in their water bowls because it is too hot in their viv, what is your set up like? |
