hi evry one
i went and got a digi thermometer this morning nd now hav it set up perfect thanks for the advice guys. i se what u mean about the stat being approximation
smart bunny Posted - 21/04/2012 : 08:23:27
Yes, the stat temp is just an approximation, you need a thermometer on top of the mat to know the exact temp :)

I don't even look at the numbers on the stat.... i read the thermometer, to see what the actual temp on the heatmat's surface is, then i tweak the stat control up/down as needed until the thermometer reading settles around the right 27-29 'C mark. (nb- most basic stats* have a minimum switch on point, and a maximum cut out point, so the temp will probably wobble up and down a little. as long as it stays within 26-29/30 and no higher, yr fine.

*(microclimate brand particularly, habistat seem to have a shorter range)

i think so lol basicly what your sayin is the thermostat can be a bit of nd if i set it to 80 + it could be to hot nd burn my snake ??
Georgina Posted - 20/04/2012 : 22:56:17
does that make sense?
KINGSIZESLIM Posted - 20/04/2012 : 22:55:52
ok thanks ill get digi thermometer tomoro

Georgina Posted - 20/04/2012 : 22:51:25
the stat is set a temp, which normally doesnt tally with the actual temp

for example my rub set up

stat says 29 but because i have thick substrate the actual temp is 32.1 (hoggie set up they require slightly more heat)

my two vivs

stat says 25 but the actual temps are 28

you need not worry about the stat temp is the temp that will be on the digi thermomter you need to worry about x
KINGSIZESLIM Posted - 20/04/2012 : 22:47:39
but the stat tells me the temp of the heat mat ???

sorry if im being enoying im just trying to understand it bare with lol
Georgina Posted - 20/04/2012 : 22:43:58
you have no means to measure the temps apart from a dial thermomter which are to acurate enough, aslong as your snake has some constant heat it will be fine. go to any aquatic shop or reptile shop tomorrow and they sell digital thermometrs. then you can tweak the stat once you have a better method of measuring the temps x
KINGSIZESLIM Posted - 20/04/2012 : 22:41:20
why not (im not bein funny im just flippin confused)
Georgina Posted - 20/04/2012 : 22:23:28
nope thats fine for now x
KINGSIZESLIM Posted - 20/04/2012 : 22:03:36
ok at the moment the stat is now on 27c nd temp is 71/72f (with the dial thermometer directly on the mat should i tweek the stat temp settings to get it closer to 80/81f ??????
Donnie Posted - 20/04/2012 : 21:58:34
No it won't. 86F is the highest that you want the temps to be but I am not sure how many degrees over that it is when it will burn a snake.
KINGSIZESLIM Posted - 20/04/2012 : 21:45:24
i hav a feeling this might be a realy stupid question BUT will 84-85f mat temp burn my snake when he burrows nd sits on the bare mat
KINGSIZESLIM Posted - 20/04/2012 : 21:26:52
thanks for the advice
KINGSIZESLIM Posted - 20/04/2012 : 21:26:13
iv just changed it to thin layer of aspen (5 min ago)nd hav the stat on 25c nd the crapy dial thermometer directly on the mat ill leave it for a little bit nd check the so called temp
