Hi everyone, got my first corn snake the other day just wanted to get a little advice on set up
Basically I have a digi thermometer on top the probe goes in through the top of the tank and takes the reading from the air, the heat matt is connected to a thermostat and the probe for that goes just over halfway down the back wall, the thermometer reads anywhere between 72 F and 79 F
I dont know how to upload photos at the moment but if someone could tell me it might be easier to see,
any advice would be great as i want to make sure hes going to be comfortable and i have it set up right

Well said, He does seem to be making use of more of the viv now, and since i turned the hide around so the hole doesnt face the glass he uses that a lot more too. Still a bit timid at the moment lol |

Im pretty sure that your snake is thanking you for making his home more comfortable for him. Chances are the other snakes avoid the heatmat so they don't get too warm. The problem is, that with temperatures like that, you never know how much neurological damage is being done until it is too late. |

Cool, Im just finding it weird the guy I got him from has ALL of his vivs set up the other way and no problems with any of his pets, including an 8 year old corn snake :p |

pretty cold, there hot end temps are cooler than our body temp. so they should always feel cool. x |

Hi Ive had it set up the way you guys have said for a few days now and Draco seems to be happy, first feed on monday was no problem and picked him up no problem for the first time today :D, he did feel pretty cold I know theyre cold blooded but how cold should they feel??? |

The unicyle is normal, the weird bit is hes started juggling while he rides it :) x
Only thing im worried about is if im changing the way its set up is it going to be a change for him he may not like or anything like that? |

its not always known what damage is down. but aslong as he seems ok, not burns or odd marks or riding unicycles he should be fine. just keep an eye x |

I got him wednesday night, but he is about 3 years old. But I know the guy I got him from and he said he hasnt had any problems |

Wow I put the probes together ontop of the matt and under the aspen and the thermometer read an almighty 50 C !!! I unplugged the matt and am letting it cool down, will this have caused any problems at all? Im pretty sure the bloke i bought him from had it set up as before with the probes in the air and never had any problems

you should not use any tape in with snakey as it can cause them harm. best to use a glue gun to stick them down or use the hide to weigh it down but you will have to keep checking it to make sure snakey does not move it from under the hide. |
