Put the dial on the mat, directly. Set the stat at 26 - 27 and you should be fine, you can put off feeding a couple of days if you want x

KINGSIZESLIM Posted - 20/04/2012 : 14:41:53
so what temp should i set the stat to untill i get digi thermometer nd temp gun ? the dial thermometers say its just under 80f with the stat on 30c nd iv felt the warm side nd its not warm (its not supposed to feell warm rite?)
Georgina Posted - 20/04/2012 : 14:29:26
I would turn the stat down a couple more degrees, a lower temp is better than a hot temp, I always find my stat are set a couple of degrees under the actual temp. X

the dial thermometers are on the substrate next to both hides on each side

The lucky reptile themo control I use is pretty accurate so if you have it set to 39c then I would say that is probably what the temp is. Remove the substrate so only a sprinkling over the mat and set the stat to 28c.

If you are getting the right temp on a dial thermometer not touching the ground the heatmat is manageing to heat the air to 28oC or whatever you have it reading, to do that the mat must be absolutely kicking out so much heat its no wonder its turned up so high. Thermostats are a bit out with the temps but not by that much you must turn it down, stick the dial thermometer flat on the mat for the closest to true reading you will get from one of those.

ok thanks peeps.ill turn it down slightly just incase its hotter than the dial therm says. nd ill get digi thermometer
nd temp gun pronto

aslong a the mat doesnt feel warm you SHOULD be ok, ideally if your snak hasnt eaten i would turn it all off and get a digital thermomter tomorrow x

agree with georgina, dial thermometers are useless
Georgina Posted - 19/04/2012 : 20:20:58
wwooaahhh dial ones are useless. i would set the stat at 26 and leave it htere until you get a better thermomter x
kev 5 Posted - 19/04/2012 : 20:20:38
a digital thermometer with probe placed directly on the heat mat is best
KINGSIZESLIM Posted - 19/04/2012 : 20:19:44
ye the dial thermometer is rite near his warm hide on the heat mat
KINGSIZESLIM Posted - 19/04/2012 : 20:18:57
the exo terra dial thermometers.

im getin the zoo med infared gun thermometer asap
kev 5 Posted - 19/04/2012 : 20:18:44
are you using a seperate thermometer and is it on the mat?
Georgina Posted - 19/04/2012 : 20:17:32
it varies from set up to set up, aslong as your temps are ok, the stat setting doesnt matter x
KINGSIZESLIM Posted - 19/04/2012 : 20:16:21
that could be it its about an inch thick ??
what would be a normal setting to acheive the correct temps???

thanks scalysituation
Georgina Posted - 19/04/2012 : 20:14:49
what sort os thermomter are you using?
ScalySituation Posted - 19/04/2012 : 20:09:03
sounds like your substrate could be too thick really you only want just over a sprinkle over the heat mat
