popped into pets at home today to pick up some frozen food and got talking to one of the guys that works there and found out that they will be selling corn snakes again in the future ... tbh I didnt even know that they have ever sold them ... anyway I don't have much experience with pets at home apart from getting my frozen mice from there sometimes ... anyway thought I'd share :) |

I had the same issues with fish. I brought some tropical fish from them and they gave my tank whitespot and wiped out absolutely everything but they were very appologetic and gave us compensation when we complained. But in my opinion it definietely does depend on where you go and who in the store you speak to. I have 2 branches local to me, I got rats and gerbils from one and guinea pigs from the other. All 7 animals are and always have been very healthy and were all very firendly from the moment I brought them home.
I'm quite a regular in my local pet shops due to having lots of animals for work and do tend to see the same people working there. So I guess as long as the staff turnover isn't stupidly high and the people are actually interested in what they're doing it seems to be ok. But I am very willing to believe that some places give very dubious advice and don't take care of their stock animals as they should! |

the only thing i brought from pets at home was a chinchilla and it was poorly looked after while it was in there care and swore i'd never buy anything from them again. |

Couldnt agree more plus pets at home buy all theyre animals from "breeding centres" so effectively all the animals sold are farmed theyre not handled prior to sale and ocasionally inbred i get so upset when i lose a pet and every animal bought by me from pets at home has developed cancerous tumours and had to be euthanased |

I think it varies from store to store. The one in Havant is really good. I've bought rats there and a dwarf hamster (he was the last one left and I'd already owned dwarf hamsters) and they all lived happily until old age. The animals there seem well fed and happy and the beardies and geckos look very healthy. They're also the only petshop in my area that sells a good selection of bird stuff. I'm actually excited about them getting corns in. Can't say the same about the one in Portsmouth though. :/ I guess it really all comes down to the staff working there.
As for the prices, yeah I agree they're a bit steep, the cage I kept my rats in (which was actually a ferret cage) cost £80.  And I recently bought a medium bag of woodshavings from there for about £5 (you can buy a slightly smaller bag from Asda for about £3). But the small petshop closest to me is no better, the guy in there was selling a hatchling snow corn for £70! I got Gil from the same guy who sold that corn to the shop for a lot less! |

My mum bought 2 female guinea pigs, 3 days later she went to clean them, there was 4, she freaked thinking rats had got in |

I bought 2 miniature russian hamsters from them..To be fair, they lived a fair while, until one decided to rip the other ones throat and half eat it..Then the stupid thing started pining for the other one and died about a week later!
I've not bought any other pets from there, as I have no interest in more homicidal hamsters, or rabbits...The corns they had looked quite healthy though. Then again, the woman who was in charge of the 'reptile area' was gushing to us about her gecko's and herps..So I guess she knew what she was doing. Sort of at least!
Their frozen food is indeed cheap, which I find a little suspicious (Call me crazy) since everything else in there is so damned expensive. |

I don't have any experience with their livestock tbh, I was going to buy a syrian hamster from there once but couldn't get no sense out of the man dealing with that department so I didn't bother ... all I get there now are my frozen mice |

I refuse to buy any animals there. When i had tropical fish, they all died within weeks when bought from there. It wasnt my setup causing the problems as my other fish where fine and all chemical balances were within normal, plus fish from a local indipendant store all survived years... |

They do intend to sell corns, will be interesting to see how expensive they are. I was in Seapets yesterday and was shocked to see a 2011 ball python for sale for £640!! I thought I was seeing things. |

As far as I know, pets at home is pretty bad. It's good for supplies and carries a lot of stock but their livestock are never given the greatest care.
Example--
We bought a rabbit and he got sick within 4 days. He had to be put to sleep. He had been ill since pets at home.
I hope they don't sell corns, I feel bad enough seeing their beardies/leo's. |

they used to sell snakes 3 billion years ago before they decided they didnt know what they were doing.
Would rather have a meal prepared by Hannibal Lecter than buy livestock from there. |

Lmao that would be a sight yeh i know what u mean about the coconut its not as easy as ud think i found best method was to use a pallet knife and get between the husk and the coconut and try to manipulate it around then id have to boil them to death else theyd leech in my tanks and turn my water pink lol |

he used to love his coconut caves, can't get a coconut big enough now, if i'd left his old 1 in there any longer he would have gotten it stuck to his body like a snail  |

I was looking at hides they sold while I was there too, a coconut cave was £6.99, when fluffy was small i'd buy a coconut for about 50p and make a hide myself
to be fair, I like the adoption corner they have, nice to see unwanted animals get a second chance. My corn was a rescue, i got him when he was about 3 months old |

They do charge a lot for theyre animals 90 quid for a chinny and thats just a standard grey lol silly money i wont buy any animals from them anymore everything ive bought from them has ended up being put to sleep :-(
they seem ok for dry goods though and they are by far the cheapest place locally for me for frozen mice Ten fuzzies from PAH = £4 ish Ten fuzzies from local garden centre pet centre £9! |
