Hey all, i always thought u put the heat mat under the viv, but i have seen a few pics of people with them in their vivs. I always thought it was the outside. My viv is wooden and i have the heat mat underneath, my other viv is all glass exo terra. I know the heat mat is ok under the exo terra one because it goes through glass easy....but what about my wooden viv??......cheers!!!

I've always found that because of the air spaces in polystyrene it allows heat to be distributed better than it would be in glass. A heatmat on glass, I have found, often causes hotspots because the heat cannot be conducted through glass very easily

Surely the polystyrene tile would insulate the heat away from the tank if its on top of the heat mat. I would say you put the tile underneath the heatmat. Thats what I did with mine when I had them under plastic fauns

mats inside for wooden vivs, they will never get enough heat to penetrate the wooden base otherwise.
