Posted - 22/03/2011 : 19:16:27 Hi Please help, I have got a new corn snake as a present for my sons birthday, I basically got a starter pack with everything I need, I set it all up and the heat mat is inside the cage with a loose covering of chippings, but it doesnt seem to be warm, i have read its insructions over and over, its says its an infered heat, ?? is it working or should there be some warmth !! Please advise ? |

Posted - 22/03/2011 : 22:13:01 They don't really feel as warm as you're probably expecting. Are you going by touch,or by a thermometer? As said above you really need to have the heat mat plugged into a thermostat which will prevent it from overheating,and a digital thermometer for monitoring the temperature. |

Posted - 22/03/2011 : 20:36:59 the mat should be run through a thermostat to control and maintain the temperature, it will only feel warm to touch if you have cool hands, the best way to monitor it is to get a digital thermometer and place the probe on top the the substrate (bedding) above the heatmat |

Posted - 22/03/2011 : 19:21:20 Is it a faunariam or a glass vivarium or wooden vivarium? You don't mention a thermostat for the heat mat. This is an essential piece of equipment and it is not safe to use the heat mat without one. |

Posted - 22/03/2011 : 19:20:33 It should feel warm when you place your hand directly on it. In fact if they are not attached to a thermostat they feel very hot to the touch.
What temps are you reading off the mat and what temp is the thermostat dial set to?
Oh, just a thought, do you have digital thermometers and a thermostat as I know some starter kits don't include them but you will need them. |
