Sorry, should have quoted the full joke:

You need 3 things in life - oil, duct tape and a hammer. If it moves and shouldn't, use duct tape, if it doesn't move and should use oil, if that doesn't work use a hammer

Personally I use folded up A4 card in the big gap and aquarium sealant in the little ones.

Wow, what a weird and scarey time you've been through. Really hope Charlie makes a full recovery.

Duct tape everywhere I think ...

When it comes to ensuring he can't get out again, may I be the first of many to say they have learnt on this forum to use NO sticky tape of any kind within a mile of a snake or it's viv. I've heard lots of stories of it causing really nasty injuries and even death. I think you and Charlie have been through quite enough already!

Sorry Kat to hear about 'littlest snake owner's' loss - she must have been gutted.

So glad to hear this Littlest snake owner was really worried for you last night 'cause her snake died just before Christmas, so she's over the moon as well.

Duct tape everywhere I think ...

That's great news. Must be such a relief.

Snakes are sods, if you haven't thought of every single thing they could do they will get themselves in trouble, even if you miss one thing they will find it and do it.

The really important thing for you to do now is work out how he escaped and fix it so it doesn't happen again.
dannyhayman Posted - 19/03/2011 : 18:41:04
So I guess it happens topmost people ;p
lotabob Posted - 19/03/2011 : 18:17:44
Spot got stuck in a 6mm air hole once but nothing too serious, it took a few minutes to free him and he distorted his head as he pulled it through but he emerged unhurt. My nerves were wrecked but he was fine.
dannyhayman Posted - 19/03/2011 : 17:10:23
Has anything bad eveer happened to your snakes ?
lotabob Posted - 19/03/2011 : 16:55:50
Not quite so exposed and without having his head stuck gave him somewhere dark to just sort himself out.
dannyhayman Posted - 19/03/2011 : 16:48:46
I understand the heat thing but how would he come back to life in a little cardboard box ? He has confused me....in a good way lol the joy when he flicked his Tongue out is one of the best feelings ever :)
gingerpony Posted - 19/03/2011 : 16:42:55
if he'd got particularly cold this could be the reason he was limp and lifeless.......though playing dead isn't something corns do, it's not even something hoggies do that often and it's meant to be in their repetoire!
lotabob Posted - 19/03/2011 : 16:41:04
It wouldn't be really expensive for such a small X-Ray but they'd probably need a few to check over all the different bits that make up the head.
Newbie Posted - 19/03/2011 : 16:33:59
How unusual! Glad he's ok, see what the vet says and keep us updated!
dannyhayman Posted - 19/03/2011 : 16:30:59
I know right! It must of happened shortly before I got in from school coz he was not far from his. Cage,I looked at his teeth when he was supposedly dead and they were fine -never seen his teeth before ,I'm just wondering how much it would be for an x ray,lol my man said call him Jesus :)
lotabob Posted - 19/03/2011 : 16:25:45
If there was no impact its less likely but not impossible that he has injured himself but if its not a body injury it should be OK with the feed you have given him but keep an eye on him, their teeth are delicate and he may have broken them or damaged the bone structure in the head. I would be tempted to get an X-ray just to be sure all is well but how strange is that, thank goodness you didn't bury him.
dannyhayman Posted - 19/03/2011 : 16:09:22
It was just his head his body was poking out from under the clock ,my friend says that snakes sometimes pretend to be dead by going limp and flattening it's head...not sure ..... When he was 'dead' I put his head back to normal and then put him in a little box, then 2 hours later he flicks his Tongue out ,so I checked to see if he could move and if there were any broken bones and he seemed fine but you can't be too careful...
lotabob Posted - 19/03/2011 : 16:07:13
What do you think happened to him? Did he have something fall on him or did he squeeze under something and get stuck then get too cold and shut down?

When they are squeezing through stuff their heads distort and squish, if he just got stuck and then cold he would have just needed warming up but if something fell on him or something like that he may be injured and if he was knocked out cold (never thought about whether you can knock out a snake, I suppose you can) its more likely to have damaged him.

Ring a vet if I was you, whether he has eaten or not you don't want to go through all that just for him to die a few days later because of a broken rib or something.

How crushed was he?? Great he's woken up again but feeding him may not have been the best idea. I'd get him to the vets.
