im getting a new tank on sunday and i was wondering if i could use plantation soil as i will be going for a forestry setup, also will be getting a stat on wednesday aswel, and the tank will be fully setup before anything goes in there, the measurements are: 44"x15"x12"

Sand is also not goo as it could go in the snakes belly cslaes and make it infected

i dont think that sand is a gd idea for a snake tbh, due to the rick of ingestion

Sorry for hijacking this thread but can sand be used with corns?

its a 4ft fish tank made by jewel /9probably shouldve sed that before) and the idea of useing fauns to keep them in the tank with is so that i dont really need to spend a fortune on setting up 2 fauns completely, just set up the tank and put the 2 fauns in it with just substrate and hides in it

Ah that's cool then ^^ Bout to say babies would scape from the doors of the viv if put in there.

a baby, as 2 are going in together (2 females), that will be put in fauns in the tank until they are ready to go into the tank together

If you have a house shop near you, aubiose will be fine. If they don't have it, don't let them talk you into buying anything else there as it maybe unsafe for snakes and just stick with aspen you buy at a petshop or something. What size corn were you getting?
ilovemypets1988 Posted - 07/02/2011 : 17:44:04
oh ok, its gunna be used for corns, as i dont have enough experience to deal with any specail requirements atm e.g. high humidity, e.t.c.

What snake is it for? Most snakes do fine on aspen if they don't need any special humidity. I have a big bag that is 20kg and several 4ft vivs and it will last for about half a year.

well im thinking of either the soil or forest substrate from ebay but im quite unsure tbh

that coconut stuff thst comes in a brick and you soak in water will have a similar effect and appearence. when its dry though, its dusty as anything!

All depends what type of snake are you putting in there?

Plantation soil is used for high humidity dependant reptiles as it holds in moisture and stays damp (I was usuing it for my brb but not now)

Not heard of it being used (dry) for corns before, if thats what your planning on.
