So sorry you're having so much trouble sorting out the new viv....really makes me cross when people mess around like that .

It was SO good seeing the pics of them eating .

I'm glad that the vet didn't think that Robin had a respiratory infection....and hopefully now he's in better surroundings and being looked after properly he won't come down with one. Do you have another appointment to see the vet again, or is it just a case of keeping an eye on them?

well im on an unlucky streak . thats 2 vivs been sold from under me. guy told me he couldnt deliver cos he was working , and would deliver today but now i rang cos he hadnt come and he toldme he sold it alrdy . grr now thats 2 thats happpened to me . Im gunna wait 1 week and get a full set up . im tired of being let down , robin n albion wil do fine for 1 more week together . grrr . if i can find another and actually get it this time before then i will do so . :( not my lucky week :(
smart bunny Posted - 30/04/2013 : 19:15:06
They have been unlucky up to now - but are lucky you have taken them in and are giving them the proper care they need now :D
andria2013 Posted - 30/04/2013 : 18:31:24
so gotta give albion multi vitmains every feed for next few month , inside the mice . :( they both had vit injections too at the vets so keeping an eye on the injection site . but they aint been too active since then , theyve just curled up in the hides ,
andria2013 Posted - 30/04/2013 : 18:20:22
vet didnt say Robin had a chest infection ,but said it could be the signs that he could get 1 soon if not sorted out , the vet said to feed chicks to robin maybe every 3-4 feeds to pput sum weight on him but albion too small to be able to handle a chick . i think albion must have got the burn due to where it is on his body , trying to get out the hole the previous owner had made for the normal light bulb to go , and burnt himself on the bulb when it went off was still hot . im so glad I have them now . new viv due in about 1 hour and im sorting the things out for it as we speak . got new digital thermometers due tomoro , and thermostat I will get on friday for new viv . im leaving them to settle after the vets and theyre injections , then ill get them settled apart in there seperate vivs . then leave them again few days get settled after that i'll then feed them .and hopefully can build them bk up to what they should be .

It's not the head so much(apart from the beak sticking out) but the hips of the chick Cereus get's Day Old Chicks that my partner get's for me and he does take his time over the hips. There's some pictures Here.

That really is shocking about Albion's weight . Silvi is just over 300g and she is only just over 4' and I want to get some more weight on her. As Sta~ple has said, it shouldn't take them long to put the weight on once they are separated and in better circumstances than they were with their previous owners .

I don't have experience with chicks so can't comment about that. What else is it that the vet has suggested you feed Robin, 2 medium mice like Albion? How often? I'm not sure about the vet telling you to feed Albion when he wants to be fed. Snakes are opportunistic feeders and will eat whenever they are offered food, but you don't want to power-feed Albion....you want the weight to go on slowly and steadily. Personally I'd rather he was fed regularly, once a week....no more than that.

I'm sorry about the fact that Robin has got a 'rattle' in his chest . When the vet said to check the humidity with him, does he mean that he's concerned high humidity has caused a respiratory infection? You might find this thread by someone who's snake was suffering from a Respiratory infection useful, to know what to look out for and what can be done.

The state that both Robin and Albiom are in really does show how important it is to get a snake's set-up right . It's not surprising that there are burn scars and some sort of damage due to the fact that they couldn't thermoregulate, with only having a hot viv and no cool end. I am SO glad you have got them Andria ....and that you are here asking questions and doing what's best for them.

With the advice on the chicks, I do feed my big boy a chick every 6-7 feeds anyway as he loses weight quicker than my female(that and my partner get's them in for me and Sakana has a small head despite being longer than Cereus) so he get's a chicky treat every 6-7 feeds. Only if he's been good though and with all the effort he's been putting in to making babies lately I thought he deserved it. The problem with feeding chicks to make a snake gain weight is that they hold no nutrition really, hence why my boy only get's them as a treat(I swear I have about 60 in my freezer though because of my partner) and some snakes have trouble digesting the beak and feet(not my boy but I have heard of it) so they have to pass the feet and beak out with the rest of their fecal matter if they can't digest them.
andria2013 Posted - 29/04/2013 : 13:36:19
thins that due to the guy who i got them off. having them in same viv and having 2 heat mats in there . and 1 on each side so no cool area realy in viv to regulate there heat .
andria2013 Posted - 29/04/2013 : 13:35:39
and give albion the multivitamins for next few month . getn hygrometer to keep an eye on the humidity as robin seems to have loud chest noises when the vet checked his chest . dnt want any respiratory problems
andria2013 Posted - 29/04/2013 : 13:33:42
well robin was under 600g and albion half that . vet said to try robin with a chick since he abit bigger than albion and try feed him a chick every 3-4feeds . bulk him up ait. and the vet said watch albions behaviour for when he wants fed ,and to feed him maybe 2 medium mice each feed .
Sta~ple Posted - 29/04/2013 : 13:15:24
Did the vet suggest an ideal weight? I agree as well with waiting :)

Glad they got on ok :) won't take them long at all to gain weight, trust me :P
