Posted - 16/04/2013 : 22:35:26 I have recently brought my corn snake home who is 6 months old. On his data sheet they had been feeding him every Tuesday. He is currently on pinkies. I was looking on some other website and it says people should feed a baby corn every 3 to 5 days. Is this true could anyone help me please. |

Posted - 24/04/2013 : 07:42:20 That's great to hear . Don't be too worried about the different responses. It's going to take him some time to adjust to getting 2 pinkies instead of just 1. I'm sure he'll be back to striking again soon....but if he doesn't its not important, all that matters is that he's eating .

Posted - 23/04/2013 : 22:48:20 Well I have fed Tango, He ate both of them I waited for the first one to pass down his body. The first pinkie he struck and it looked like he tried to coil up but it was a fail. The second pinkie was just a normal strike, compared to last week when I fed him and he just gracefully took it out of the tongs. |

Posted - 23/04/2013 : 19:52:30 Yes, wait until the first pinkie is about a third of the way down Tango's body and then offer him the second one. Let us know how you get on .

Posted - 23/04/2013 : 14:46:06 I am going to give him to pinkie's a bit later on. See how he gets on. Shall I wait a little bit after he has ate the first one then give him the second? |

Posted - 19/04/2013 : 10:01:15 You can get a rough idea of length from his shed, you just have to be aware that the skin stretches so you have to take off about 10%, I think it is. You can use the Snake Measurer and this thread shows you the best ways to use it . There are some other ways to Measure your snake here. To be honest the easiest way is probably the string method....just hold a piece of string starting at his nose and let him move through your hands, running the string along his body as you do. It's not easy .
That's a great weight gain since you bought him. Shows how well you're doing . It definitely sounds as though he's ready for 2 pinkies and it probably won't be long before he can move up to fuzzies .
I did smile about him making a mess as soon as you'd cleaned him out . It's good you're picking up on the signs of him wanting to poo, because he'll do the same thing when you're handling him....go still, then lift his tail, hopefully giving you enough time to reach for some kitchen roll to 'catch' it before it arrives .
I'm glad you're partner is beginning to touch him while you hold him. It is a slow process with people who are scared of snakes, but your partner will get there....just no pressure!

Posted - 19/04/2013 : 00:50:26 I weighed him tonight and he is 22 grams. I was surprised, on his next feed I will try him with my last two pinkies and see how he gets on. It was really funny I changed his paper sheets and gave him fresh water. He then lifted his tail end up in the air and dropped his load. I thought it was quite clever him lifting up his tail then when he finished he moved off with his tail still pointed in the air. So I now know a good indication for next time when he is going to go. I still haven't measured him yet but I will get onto that. My partner does't mind touch him when I have a hold of him but she is still bringing herself around to actually holding him. We are getting their though. |

Posted - 18/04/2013 : 22:57:52 i will check it out. What is the best way to measure the length of my corn as they never seem to be straight. |

Posted - 18/04/2013 : 21:50:59 It does sound as though he could either have double pinkies or move up to fuzzies, as there was barely a noticeable bump once he'd eaten. Don't be led too much by the feeding guide....it is just that, a guide. It can give you a rough idea about feeding, but much of it depends on the snake itself and what you want to do.
If you look on that thread you'll see a section on 'Where to feed your snake'. That tells you how you can feed him outside of his faun and move him back, as Georgina has explained.

Posted - 18/04/2013 : 07:44:55 They are fine to be handled to put back in their viv or you can just tilt the feeding tub inside and the will slither out x |

Posted - 18/04/2013 : 00:26:26 you could see the pinkie is his neck after he ate it but as it was moving down it was only just noticeable. After he ate it he came back out as if he was looking for more. I will get some picture uploaded tomorrow. I will also weigh him tomorrow aswell as I was looking on the feeding guide and it says around 16 grams feed them 2 pinkies. He was 10 grams when I bought him it said on his data sheet.
Also people say that you can feed the snake inside of his faun or put him in a separate tank. If I did feed him in a different tank how would I get back into his home as I thought they could not be handled after a feed. |

Posted - 17/04/2013 : 20:11:41 He sounds like a lovely corn Kevin . I can't wait to see pics of him....hint hint .
Don't worry about the fact that he only comes out if you pick him up. Some corns will actively want to come out, others don't. I rarely see mine, as they are in their hides all the time, except for when I get them out to handle and feed....except for this time of the year when Kellog is thinking more of females than food ! Also don't worry too much about him only drinking when you put fresh in....you don't know what he's up to when you're fast asleep.
Must have been wonderful when he took that pinkie off you . When he has eaten it was there any sign of a bump? I'm wondering whether he could move up to 2 pinkies, before doing the jump to fuzzies.
