Hi there

As some of you may know my little pastel motley, Skye has been a problem feeder, finally ate saurday 27th oct, since then pood 8 times, and today whilst cleaning i noticed some blood... she wasnt very active, definately not her usual self.

Now she has perked up a lot but im still worried about the blood, someone on facebook said she could have slightly damaged her bowel because of pooing so much, I just want her to be ok...

Thoughts?

Scaly x

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I just wanted to say how sorry I am Scaly - I was on a break from the forum when this happened so only just read it. I had seen the little RIP in your sig but didn't like to ask. So sorry poor little Skye didn't make it xxx

Sorry to hear that :( some are just not made to live. It's sad that its happened to you x you could have a postmortem done to find the cause and let the breeder know and also would give an idea of signs to look out for x

offering every 5-10 days,

havent had a feacal test done as she hasnt pooped since the idea came up
Nasicus Posted - 15/11/2012 : 00:02:35
How often are you offering to her?

Also, you taken her to the vets for a faecal test or anything yet?

I do hope she takes for you soon, I had my little Hognose girl go off for a while, and because she was so small, I was very worried :S

I am sure the rodents you buy for all your snakes are kept on shavings that may contain pine. You only need to put the pinky in with some of the bedding to gain the scent of the animals droppings etc then remove the pinky to feed. Its the actual oils in the pine bedding that some feel can cause problems if a snake breathes the fumes from the oils in for any amount of time.

If your not happy doing the powerade bath you could buy reptoboost. C

She'd only missed one feed when I got her, will venture down to the pet shop today to see if they can give me some bedding
Red123 Posted - 14/11/2012 : 11:51:18
You say you have tried just about everything else. Have you got your hands on some used mice, gerbil, hamster bedding or some lizard bedding to put the pinky in a bag of it so it starts smelling of the rodent/lizard? Have you actually cut the pinky in half just behind the front legs rather than just braining it?
Red123 Posted - 14/11/2012 : 11:39:08
So did you knowlingly buy her as a problem feeder? Or was she feeding well before you purchased her?
ScalySituation Posted - 14/11/2012 : 11:38:07
Btw the powerade, bath worked but it's not.something I'm keen on doing often
ScalySituation Posted - 14/11/2012 : 11:23:56
I tried to assist because I have tried just about everything else
She's had it scented with chick (last nights I actually put inside the chick for a while) she's had powerade baths, left it overnight, major teasing, braining and just about everything else.
She hatched in August and last week weighed 6g
Last Fed was 27th Oct, but that's only her second since sept 23rd

I find that if I defrost or place a pinky or even a medium mouse in warm water 9 times out of 10 it will pop from any form of pressure whether thats from the snakes mouth or just from the snake moving over the top of it. Can I ask a few questions. Apologies if these have already been answered on previous post.
Why did you decide to try and assist feed?
What else have you tried to encourage feeding?
What age and weight is this little snake?
How many weeks has it been since it fed?
ScalySituation Posted - 14/11/2012 : 10:22:36
I only make it a squiggly bit warm in some lukewarm water. And it's not kept on the heat mat overnight or anything
