I have now had my 4 week old snake for a week. I gave her all the rest she needed. I fed her yesterday (I did it in the viv. Next time she will be taken out and put into her feeding tankthing)
Today I moved her into a smaller tank because the current viv is waaaaaay to big for her. She had been hiding under a heavy water dish alllllllllllllllll day. My plan was to wait for her to come out and then pick her up (This would of been her first time being 'properly' handled...) When I decided to take the water dish out anyway I dropped all the water out of it ontop of her which made her and me jump. Then I tried to pick her up and she rushed to the other side of the viv after making a sudden movement which made me jump because I thought she was going to bite me. We spooked each other quite a bit. Then I thought maybe if I put a cup in the viv she might climb in and I can move her like that but that did not work and I ended up chasing her around the viv with a cup... When we both REALLY had enough I went to get some gloves and picked up like that and obviously she did not bite me.... I'm really stuck on how to tame her because everytime I come near her I get nervous and we both freak. I think I might of traumatised her today :x

Yaay!

The cool end temp is less important so long as it's lower then the hot side.

I have my hot side at 28c.

Yup 27 - 29 is ideal, mine are at 28.5. Anything over 30 can cause brain damage and in some cases death. You cannot really do anything about the cool end. Except cool the air tem with ice block, shade, I have deep water bowls as mine are over 2,5ft and I'm happy they can get out, which brings the temps down. Mine havnt gone above 28.5 yet :)

And the cold endd?
Lozzy Posted - 24/08/2012 : 18:40:26
Ideally between 27-29 degrees in the warm end
Leasha Posted - 24/08/2012 : 18:34:23
Cooling down project has started. Can someone give me the PROPPER guidelines to what temp it should be at the Hot and Cold side? Because so far ive been told tht it shud be 32, 28, 25 *C and all sites tell me smthimg different...
Georgina Posted - 24/08/2012 : 00:20:39
Keeping at that temp is mega dangerous, and life threatening for the snake. You need to get the temps down ASAP. Move th viv to a cool room. Don't put ice blocks directly in the viv, I put mie on top if needed with a fan on. She will be ea grumpy in that heat, I wouldn't feed until temps are normal. X

I take it the 'cool' end is about the same? You definitely need to start an intervention program... She'll also be grumpy at those temps which will only make the taming harder.

You should try to get the cool side down to 25*c ish..

@ Smartbunny.
She has everything she needs. She's pretty much in snake heaven haha!
Ive even sacrificed some of my really nice cups for extra shedding hides.

Just a quick query - do you have a hide at each side so she has a choice of hot/cold place where she feels safe? I'm sure you do, just wanted to check ;)

Yup.. my vivs are full of little 'snake sized' holes that lead to who knows how many tunnels and such. Just be sure that the temps are good.. I had to take pop bottles and freeze them to bring the 'cool' end temps down during a recent heat wave, I just put them on the top to one side.

If she's getting ready to shed then she'll be even more inclined to find a dark hole to hide in...

Not sure what your plan is record keeping wise but I really recommend logging feeds and sheds, if nothing more it helps to predict what might be going on in there little snaky brains...

What are your temps like?

Ha!.. count yourself lucky! Kitty likes to poop under his substrate..

Makes spot cleaning a real chore...

Yes yes yes. Leaving her alone 8D
Needed to change her water tho!

Yeah they do love finding a hiding place like that! :)

Ahh. I don't think I can afford another viv/snake at the moment. One reallyy is enough haha.
