Posted - 13/05/2012 : 18:51:17 Since I got my young corn snake, he's eaten fuzzies, he ate them for 4 weeks before this whole thing started... When he went into shed, I gave him a pinky as I wasn't sure if he'd eat, but with quite a bit of encouragement he did, a few days after his actual shed (a week after previous feed) I tried to give him a fuzzy, and he started eating it, but spat it out - it looked way too big for him, so I gave him a pinky and he was fine. This weekend I've tried to give him a pinky and he just ignores it completely, he's not even bothered at all, he just goes in the opposite direction to the pinky. I exposed a bit of flesh on the pinky (the whole brain matter thing is a bit gross!) but even then he was still uninterested. He was always a good feeder until his shed .. what shall I do?! -Thank you for any help! |

Posted - 01/07/2012 : 23:22:29 how sure are you that he is he? lol might sound odd, but it could be to do with wanting to breed? i hear all too often of a 'he' turning out to be a 'she'

Making sure the camera is not prey!
His markings from above .. I think he knows he's pretty, and I think he thinks he can get any snake he wants >.<
had to grab him before he made a hasty escape! |

Posted - 10/06/2012 : 20:59:19 Ah right - if it's the dial ones then they usually read lower than the actual temp, so the real temp is probably a perfect 28 lol! Sorry, all I can say is good luck and hope he feeds soon :( |

Posted - 09/06/2012 : 19:07:01 I have two thermometers (neither are digital) both measuring the temp, they are located just above the heat mat :) |

Posted - 09/06/2012 : 09:49:47 Sorry if you've already said (skimmed the thread but didn't see) but how are you measuring temps? Is it a digital thermometer on top of the mat? Or do you have a bulb? again sorry if already gone through this lol! |

Posted - 08/06/2012 : 17:02:49 When I put the temps up, he was suddenly very lethargic, and could barely move. I thought he was dead at one stage. When I put the temps down he went back to his normal self :) |

Posted - 08/06/2012 : 16:50:24 As above, temps should be about 28 degrees. If he doesn't think it's warm enough to digest, he won't eat. Good luck next week, hope he eats for you. Also, if he's not eating he's not very likely to shed as he won't be growing! |

Posted - 07/06/2012 : 15:49:01 He hasn't eaten for 1 month, still nothing! We took him for a full health inspection and he is perfect! No twisted gut, all good teeth, good body mass, bright eyes, bright skin .. the expert thinks that he is just a very sexual snake, and even though he is only 9 months old, he is looking for love, and that after his next shed, he should be fine! :'D |

Posted - 22/05/2012 : 19:42:52 Both of mine always eat on the night after shedding no problems. Every snake is different but I think a lot of peoples eat after shedding. |

Posted - 22/05/2012 : 07:07:59 I rang the man got Tango from, and he said that when they shed, they get extremely tired, and it triggers in their brain that anything that moves is a predator. Thats why Tango was backing away, and sleeping all the time. He also said that turning the temp up was a bad decision, as it makes him feel even more lethargic. Mark has been working with snakes for 34 years, and he said he doesn't even bother feeding them 2 weeks after a shed, because it is very unlikely that he will eat. I turned the temp back down, and he is a lot more active. I tried feeding on Sunday, and he was more interested, but not quite there yet. I reckon I'll be in luck next week, as he is changing back into his normal self, so fingers crossed! I also found out that one of Mark's baby corn snakes went 4 months without eating after a shed, so at the moment, there is nothing to worry about!! |

Posted - 21/05/2012 : 11:41:59 I think I have found the cause with Ra..he had a horrendous shed and it looks like he retained his eye caps. If it works i'll let you know :) |

Posted - 19/05/2012 : 16:13:41 I'm having the same problem and have just tried the chick scented pinkie to see if it works...otherwise it'll be the 3rd refused meal! |

Posted - 18/05/2012 : 17:43:08 I contacted the man today, and I am most likely bringing him in tomorrow to his shop .. funnily enough, here is a video of the man we bought Tango from! --> http://www.videojug.com/film/how-to-care-for-baby-corn-snakes |

Posted - 16/05/2012 : 21:56:00 I am sure it'll turn out well, the guy I bought Ra from will take him in to get feeding if he goes on refusing for the next 2 weeks. If we weigh them once a week and post back here to keep track :) |

Posted - 16/05/2012 : 21:30:26 Oh dear! Now, he is actually sleeping on top of the fuzzy! -_- If he hasn't eaten by this time next week, (would have been 19 days since previous feed) I am going to take him to the man we got him from, he has lots of experience in snakes and many other reptiles (as he runs a shop with everything from pythons to Sugar gliders!), and bred Tango himself .. he is also taking Tango in when we go for our family holiday, and he said if we have any trouble like this he could give us advice, but as it has been just over a week, it isn't that urgent yet!! So nice to know that we could get help from him if this gets really serious!! |
