So I've been umming and ahhing about putting this up and it's finally got to me and I have to know.

I put a picture of Cereus up on a group not long a go and was told he was a "High White Butter" instead of normal... Now, I'm confused because I'll admit he's paler than a lot of butters but he's not exactly truly white... His base colour is sort of "Off white" and his saddles are nice and yellow. In some pictures his colour is washed out that much that he almost looks like a snow...

So. My first question is - What is a High White Butter?
I'm guessing it just means the butter has more white than normal? Or is it another term for Hypo Butter? I'm not sure... I have wondered before about him being a Hypo Butter but didn't think you could tell the difference so just thought maybe it was my eyes and he wasn't as pale as he looked but after someone else telling me he's got more white than normal it kind of dawned on me...

So, essentially this is a morph question but it's also a question about High White Butters and Hypo Butters. I had never heard of High Whites before... I though Hypo Butters looked the same as Normal Butters and you could only tell the difference after a trial breeding?

So, here's some pictures of Cereus. As you can see, his colour seems to change in each picture which doesn't help but I'd say picture number five is the most accurate colour wise. This is also the one where I was told he was a High White. That is a picture in the sun.

I'm sorry I'm putting yet another morph question up but now I'm confused about it. I've always though he was a Normal Butter, he was sold to me as an "American Butter Corn" but I thought that was just a name made up for him by the old owners? I don't like being confused.

Hypo Butters can vary greatly, but on the whole it's one example where Hypo goes AGAINST what it normally does to toher morphs- that is to say, it makes butters darker, not lighter. Why, I have no idea :P

Take for example one of my Hypo butters from this year, certainly not as bright as a normal Butter, and more closer to looking like an Amel. This one has quite a lot of white, especially near the rear, but is nowhere near as light in colour as your big boy. I'd suggest a normal butter, purely because he is very much a yellow snake, and not reddy/orange like most Hypo butters.

Thanks Moppet, that's what I've always thought but doubts have been put in my mind now...

I don't know. I got him and his set up for £100 last year, I've always thought that he was just a butter and I was happy with that but I don't know now. I'm just confused and I don't like being confused.
