Posted - 27/04/2013 : 03:32:43 hey guys just came home from the lps and covinced myself i needed a crestie, i bought i 30x30x45 eco viv with light canopy/blue night light, coco stuff and orchid bark branches and plant, but was told maybe a good idea to put a heat mat under the viv to boost the temp a little and to help producing humidity (as the wet coco stuff and bark) does this sound right ? and if so where do i put the temp sensor and stat sensor on the orchid bark ?

Posted - 05/05/2013 : 21:01:31 LOL Bert's not brave enough to try that. If he did start walking the mesh then the light would be suspended above the mesh :) |

Posted - 05/05/2013 : 20:19:58 Cool. If he likes who's to argue. The only concern I would have with mine is they walk on the mesh :( |

We found that Bert prefers warmer temps and will sit very close to his heat lamp a lot of the time. It gives a warm spot of 28c-29c surprising when you read most care sheets. The lamp is turned off at night. They are amazing little lizards.
is that a 45x45x60 ?
Its a 60x45x60.
Georgina - He is happy with his hot spot and he chooses to sit there. He does move away to the cooler areas when he wants to. There is to much emphasis on Cresties temperatures not being allowed to go over a certain temperature. While I would not have a viv sitting at 28c-29c as an ambient temperature for a crestie a hot spot of this temperature is greatly appreciated by Bert. |

Posted - 05/05/2013 : 18:11:45 I would personally drop your hot spot a few degrees x |

Depending on there size you can account for a little weight loss. Try not to hand feed as they like it too much and get acussomed to it and would rather you feed them. I spray once a day and have kitchen roll in all mine. The girls have a moss box each and my male has a coconut hide with miss in. Generally they sleep in the foliage they normally sleep on the floor close to a shed. Heat wise, although room temp is fine 20-23 and a night time of 16-20. It's good to have a warm spot in the viv so they can thermo regulate. I find that the uv bulbs create a 4 degree gradient which seems to work fine. Food wise clarks or repashy are the best IMO. I feed live twice a week but only one of mine eats it lol I offer roaches, hoppers and crix as mealies have been found,in some animals, to cause impaction as they can't digest the shell. Mine all drink out if their water dishes. And depending in the size of your crestie it won't be long before you upgrade the viv size. I feed fresh fruit mixed with their cgd once a week with a spot of manuka honey x
thanks alot for that Georgina you use paper towel for adults ? got any pics of your setup ?

Posted - 01/05/2013 : 08:24:15 ok thanks for the help :)

Posted - 30/04/2013 : 23:41:45 you can try a small bit of ripe mango or pear tiny bit, mush it up, or just wait for the repashy, how big are the locusts? For just now, might be better to put down kitchen roll to see any poop, although could be poop on branches. If the locusts are an ok size, try putting them in a dish, if they can jump out, take their back legs off
