Posted - 23/03/2010 : 14:37:08 Hi everyone I am new to corn snakes and also this forum so I thought I would introduce myself
my name is Malcolm I live in essex I have always been interested in snakes in general but always believed them to be out of my price range but found out recently while doing some online research into what would be a good beginner snake that they are positivly cheap compared to a lot of other animals.
so I went to a shop in rainham called cold blooded after reading some good reviews about them online to take a look around and price things up and ended up walking out with a complete setup and two 10 to 15 week old corns a reverse okeetee (Kellogg) and a butter (Scotch).
I have been sticking to a lot of the information I have been reading on here like leaving them to settle in, changing the water daily, making sure my smells are on the substrate and I must say its all rather fun and exciting lol.
the snakes have been spending most of the daylight hours hiding but at night they are out and about exploring the viv and they look very comfortable in there Scotch shed last night which was quite exciting finding a almost full length skin laying across the cork bark thats in there, thanks to stuff I have read on here the first thing I checked is the eye caps and they came off fine thankfully.
it is their first feed today so I am looking forward to that but anxious at the same time.
anyways thats enough babbling from me I hope to stick around on here for a long time as you all seem like a very nice and helpfull bunch of peeps.
I will try and get some pics and upload them as soon as poss |

Posted - 01/04/2010 : 13:31:35 I have done the same with Steve, wait until the snakes are moving around again once they have eaten the first then see if they want the second one. |

next feeding day is on friday so I might try them both on 2 and see how they get on
When I have do multiple feeds I feed the 1st mouse then wait until the snake has worked it down so the bump is almost half-way down its body and then I offer the 2nd mouse. I just feel that it is best for them to get their 1st meal settled before starting on their 2nd....but I have only done multiple feeds with my present snake and therefore can only talk from my personal experience and opinion. I would THINK that others with more experience would agree with me though.
Let us know feeding goes on Friday.

Posted - 31/03/2010 : 17:11:38 I have seen that rough guide Kellog and wondered if I should move them both up to 2 pinkies
the thing I am wary of is how I go about it do I feed them the first one the wait a certain ammount of time before I do the second
as far as the BUMP is concerned after they eat the bump is visible but its only slightly bigger than the rest of the body and it moves down the body pretty quick
next feeding day is on friday so I might try them both on 2 and see how they get on |

There is a VERY ROUGH guide that you can follow to have some idea as to what your snake should be feeding on. This is the part that would be applicable to your Kellogg and Scotch:
Snake (4 – 15g) = 1 Pinkie (0.5 – 3g) - feed every 5 to 6 days Snake (16 – 23g) = 2 pinkies (3 – 4g) - feed every 5 to 6 days Snake (24 – 30g) = small fuzzy (3 – 6g) - feed every 6 to 7 days
It certainly sounds as though they could both move up to 2 pinkies every 5 days for a while and then Kellogg may even manage a small fuzzy, but I wouldnt jump to that immediately.
The guide for feeding is that the 'dinner's' girth is 1.5 times the size of the widest part of the snake's body girth, no bigger.
You can work out if they need to move up in size when there is no longer a bump once they have eaten their 'dinner'.
Hope this is of some help.

Dont worry about it too much Malcom, corns do grow at different rates....even if they are the same age and being fed on the same diet. As long as they are eating, putting on weight and healthy then it is all good !
What are you feeding them on?
