Hi, I'm getting my first ever corn snake tomorrow, very excited! I have been haunting these boards for a couple of weeks, picking up lots of tips, so thanks everyone, and especially thanks for the sticky on faun setup, I think you'll all see some similarities :)

This is my new baby:

He/she is a 3 month old normal as far as I can tell

And my setup:

I hope I have thought of everything!

I have tried the hygro in a few different rooms and stuck the probe out of the window for a bit and it is giving readings around 70% everywhere. However, according to the met office it is 99% humidity outside today, so I don't think there is a lot I can do about it! I guess i'll keep an eye on it and see how it is looking when it is a bit drier outside, but it doesn't look like it is specifically a problem with the faun.

Thanks for the advice

On a positive note Basil has been having a bit more of a look around since i've been home this afternoon, definitely checking things out today :) can't wait to be able to handle him!

One is a combi temp/hydro too. End of day everything electronic can possibley be wrong. An to be honest I'd be very surprised if your house was 70%. Not many people bother to monitor humidty in corn housing

I'm just using a habistat mat stat, i'm pretty impressed with how close it keeps the temp, I was expecting a little more of a range from what I have read. I'll have a go at adjusting later. How reliable are the exoterra digital thermometers? I hope it is giving me an accurate reading!

Thanks

The habistat seems to be keeping it pretty stable, the range is 29.1-29.5C

Should I try and lower is 0.5C?

Thanks, I'll give that a go, fingers crossed it is just reading inaccurately, as it doesn't seem like there is a lot I can do about it being too high.

I am a little confused about the ideal temp for the warm side, When I was reading up it seems like 29/30C is the recommended, but now someone on this thread has said 29 is too high? Confusing!

Thanks

The setup is in my bedroom, the brickwork is an old closed up fireplace alcove, where I have the tank. The humidity reading for my whole house is around 70%, I tested in a couple of different rooms. Using an exoterra digital hygro-thermometer, are these at all reliable?

Thanks

The humidity is about 70%,

will it be ok to wait a whole week to allow them to settle in without feeding? i.e. about 2 weeks with no feed? They also said they have been feeding twice a week, but it seems every 5 days is more advisable?

Not sure about a name yet! My shortlist is Cinnamon, Bracken, River,

29 is a tad high.. the recommendation is typically 28..

Humidity @ 70 might give you trouble long term, mainly with scale rot and respiratory infections. but I'm not 100% on that

I feed my yearling every 7-10 days.. as a youngster I fed him every 7.

I'd vote Brakken.

Beautiful little snakey Snakes vary in size so much but 10g and 37cm long sounds plausible to me.

Hi,

Got him/her home ok, settling in now, I have spotted it on the vines and in both of the hides so seems to be exploring!

The housemate vote is for Basil as the name, so looks like we will be testing that out for now!

Here is another pic:

And measuring:

Using snake measurer, it works out as about 37cm long, and according to my kitchen scales, 10grams, not sure how accurate that is, seems pretty tiny!

Thanks everyone
